Chalabi has listened to the questions and comments of the audience and answered clearly more questions, especially with regard to the security situation and economic development.

He mentioned in the context of the political scene that the cause of formation of the United Iraqi Alliance, he wanted to be a parliamentary bloc grouping the great burdens of writing the Constitution and approval, The coalition already succeeded in accomplishing this task. On the reason for his withdrawal from the coalition in the recent election. There was a girl ( bank teller) who is from Iraqi, so yes, she was familiar with the iraqi dinar. However, she made a comment: " What's happening with all these people buying millions of dinars suddenly? Maybe I should stop sending dollars home in Iraq and just keep dinars too..." Pretty smart - the girl. She smelled something.

I went and bought one million and then my sister went too ( one at the time, cause I had my kids in the truck in the parking lot) and bought one million. That's what threw the girl off probably. And she made that comment when my sister was in. If I was there probably I would have told her to get some for herself.

What I believe is that it matters what kind of people you get in contact with at these banks. The average american working at the bank would not know too much about currency exchange rates, etc, but when you talk to someone that came from a different country, they do know what and how because at some point they needed to exchange currency...and the majority of them send money home to help their families, so they know even the exchange rates for their countries..

Honestly, I think her comment was referring to me and my sis - two people buying one mill dinars each in lass than 15 minutes...She did not know anything about the dinars thing - she was wondering why we buy them - which makes me believe that they ( the tellers at the bank) are not aware of anything going on. I would assume that if they were informed of anything, the girl would have known about it already - after all it would have been about her native country...and she did not look stupid at all...

In reading other posts about the false rumors started before by the originator of this B of A rumor over on IIF, that she in fact has started other rumors and made outrageous statements(see her zero lop statement), it sure seems like this is another in a succession of them that most likely isn't true.

I like that term SGS used... chain puller.. yes, that's it

Time will tell Randy, she's well respected judging by the remarks over there and others have confirmed it whislst others have denied it.

Nothing's straight forward EVER! Her 'street cred' will be shot if it's not true.
Zubaidi:Monetary value of the Iraqi dinar must revert to the previous level, or at least to acceptable levels as it is in the Iraqi neighboring states.

Shabibi:The bank wants as a means to affect the economic and monetary policy by making the dinar a valuable and powerful.

KRG US Representative urges investment in Kurdistan

LawkSalih.Com - KRG US Representative urges investment in Kurdistan

Peoria, Illinois (KRG) - KRG Representative to the US, Qubad Talabany on Monday urged US industry leaders to consider using Kurdistan as the gateway to doing business in Iraq. Speaking at the 2nd International Construction and Innovations Conference (ICIC) in Peoria, Illinois – home to US giant Caterpillar – Talabany expressed his disappointment at US companies operating their Iraq Headquarters from neighboring Jordan or Dubai, when they could safely operate out of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq.

The KRG representative informed the audience, comprised of over 12 Government Ministers from around the world as well as 45 industry-leading CEOs from over 30 countries, that there are parts of Iraq not entrenched in chaos and danger, but that enjoy peace and prosperity and are ready for business.

Talabany stated that Kurdistan’s stable environment, with its two functioning airports and improving banking sector, is conducive for international investment. He added that the region’s recently passed investment law – allowing the full ownership and repatriation of profits – provides the necessary incentives and protection to attract international investment.

Talabany stated the priorities of the Kurdistan Regional Government, highlighting specifically the need to develop the region’s roads, its housing and tourism sectors as well as the need to address the region’s energy shortfalls.

The KRG representative reiterated US Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad’s comments to reporters and businessmen at Erbil’s recent trade show when he said, “[companies] will make large profits” on investments in the tourism sector. Talabany emphasized that Khalilzad did not want companies to leave Kurdistan without contracts in hand.

During a lengthy Q&A session, Talabany warned American CEOs that if they waited for “Iraq to become Switzerland before investing,” they would lose out to foreign companies that are already beginning to do business in Kurdistan.

The two-day conference, co-hosted by Caterpillar and Bradley University, was organized by Iraqi American Amir Al-Khafaji, who expressed his desire to eventually hold an ICIC conference in Kurdistan.

Time to stop talking and to do business. To start in Kurdistan.
Urging for doing business now and using Kurdistan as an Gateway tells me that we are soooooooo close.

I don't think the kurds don't let them buy out for a penny.

As of last night Ompus had another conference call and even they are starting to jump on the proverbial bandwagon!!! Dan the CEO of Ompus believes that they will start processing those ten thousand dollar checks on monday, the sixth of november and we should see the reval by his speculation, the 13th to 15th of Nov. What really shook me was all along they have been saying that a low reval should be expected like .33 to .70 but now they are saying 1.40 so this is heartening. They also said that they have confirmed that oil deals have already been started with foreign countries, even though HCL that they know of has yet to be enacted. more reason to believe a high reval is in order. So if I knew how to make those big woot signs that you all are famous for I would do it but I dont so.../

I still don't get it...If I am in Iraqi..and I am poor, and I have 5 kids...and I need that 10K....I am going on monday to the bank, get my 10K and buy - the same day - 7 loafs of bread for my kids for the next three days.
On the 15th is the RV, but who cares, cause my kids ate it! ...Something doesn't add up for me...

LawkSalih.Com - US National Security Adviser asks KRG to continue positive role in Iraq

Erbil, Kurdistan - Iraq - On his first visit to Erbil, US National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley stressed the important role of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq’s political process. He said he came to obtain information firsthand and to explain US policy, which included support for the national unity government in Baghdad. He was accompanied by US Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and other US Government officials.

During the open and productive meetings, Mr Hadley conveyed President Bush's commitment to the project to establish a free democratic, federal and pluralistic Iraq.

Mr Hadley affirmed his government's partnership with the Kurdistan Region in promoting the democratic process and fighting terrorism. He said he was impressed with the economic development activities he had seen. He learned of issues of importance to the people of the Region, including electricity, fuel, the absence of US companies investing in the Region, and difficulties with Baghdad regarding funding and the management of oil resources.

Ambassador Khalilzad expressed his appreciation to President Masoud Barzani for his central role in the democratic process and asked him to continue to play his part. President Barzani offered reassurances of the Kurdistan Region's commitment to the Constitution of Iraq and its determination to stand by the political process and continue taking a positive participatory approach. He said the Region's leadership will continue to work with all communities and with the central government in meeting the challenges of national reconciliation, overcoming differences, and power sharing.

Mr Hadley met with the Kurdistan Region’s President Masoud Barzani and Vice President Kosrat Rasoul, and Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Omar Fattah.

They now what to do and there influence is growing.

Finally there is the intention to work together and to start boosting that economy for everybody sake!
