I think MOST people here are reading into this WAY more then what I am trying to say, but that is nothing new from what I have experienced posts in the past. How something so simple could wind up into a bashing session is beyond me. As you can see above, the limited amount of what one can do is as simple as what i do, which is offer beverages and food when I can and I am sure some of you offer what you can. What I am trying to say is with your new found wealth, will you think of those less fortunate then you or in the case of those who do try and help your fellow mankind then what in addition, if anything, do you plan to do?

    That simple.

Thanks, Dinar Cha Ching. This is how I have always thought that charity should be done--->anonomously. Too many people use there giving as a way to point out how great they are, especially those in our national media and entertainment industries. Most of the time all I can do is shake my head when I see these hype stories that are being used to promote their next movie or book.

I have for some time been struggling with how to donate a portion of any returns that I may receive from this investment. The reason being is that I would like to definitely know that my donation is being used in the most effective manner possible. That verse has allowed me to see the solution to my problem. I am going to volunteer with the organizations that I will donate to and anonomously donate a smaller amount of money to those organizations, then see how they manage what I have given them. If they do the right thing, then they will receive a much larger amount anonomously.

Thanks, it sure feels good when I figure out a problem that has been nagging me.

I think most of us have been giving this thought for along time... how good it will feel to do more and really try and make a difference in peoples lives beganning with our family, friends and extending beyond.. I'd like to share one suggestion I read quite a while back that I immediately said I also wanted to do.. I had never thought of it on my own so appreciated the suggestion.. it was to remember the children in Iraq.. the orphanages.. I feel that our lives will be changed due to the situation in Iraq.. for me this will be a way to give back to them.. and like so many who have voiced when the time comes it will be done quietly but hopefully effectively.. I think the main point that started this discussion was to remember others not so fortunate.. :)ez

I don't know about making a donation locally, because I don't intend to stay living where I'm at. I've never wanted to live where I'm at, but for the kind of house we wanted, and what we could afford (plus the fact that it's halfway between where my parents live, and where my wife's parents live), this is where we ended up. So as far as contributing to THIS community, I do not plan on doing so. However, I do plan on contributing to whatever community we do end up in. Not sure in what capacity yet, but I do plan on doing something to help.

I also plan to make a donation to a veteran's charity. I was active duty for four years. I may not have gone much beyond the minimum service requirement when I signed up, but it wasn't for lack of desire. It was simply a situation of unfortunate circumstances (I was in Clinton's Military - Cutbacks were extremely popular - We were understaffed in all areas, and I wanted to get exposure to other things in my career field - After everything I tried, I could not get transferred to another area within my field, due to my current area being understaffed). So anyway, I plan to research what charities exist for veteran's, and make a donation to one that I think is appropriate.
Four years ago... no, it was yesterday. Today I... No, that wasn't me. Sometimes I... No, I don't.

Let's see...I too have given this quite a bit of thought. First, I would move me and my son into a safer neighborhood. Next, send my oldest 2 children (27-boy, 21-girl) to college, on ME. Next, put away the funds necessary to send my youngest (he's only 11) to college.

I will regularly send money to my brother and sister, who are in financial straits (as in, my sister and her husband can't afford gas to heat their home).

When my family is settled, I will regulary give money to my local church as they do a tremendous amount of work for the homeless and hungry in our area.

Last, I will quit my job and work as a volunteer at one of the many local hospitals here in Atlanta. I'll work totally for free and hope to get a part time spot in the infants ICU or the nursery and be a comforting presence for the babies. Then I will come home in the afternoons and be an available, present mother to my "baby" which is something I have never been able to do with any of my children. This, I guess, is my last shot at that.

That's my plan and, God willing, it will come to pass.

Let's get money in hand first, then the sky is the limit on giving!

That's right!!! PLENTY of handouts and wannabes when wanting to emulate others... remember, YOU are a handout too if you can't afford your own well being...DID YOU ever thought if any of "them" considered you in the list for a handout???

Better help yourself and your immediate needs until your bank account is "filled to the brim" and you can afford at least oNCE, or twice and regularly for the next two years to have a decent holiday...even to Disneyland... then start thinking of others....

In the meantime, let the NGOs and the Govt who has been taxing you do their part...that's where all the extra cash is stashed at... don't worry about them...WORRY about yrself FIRST & FOREMOST...coz without you sustaining yrself, no one can rely on you to sustain them for long.... that's how Charity works...

Leave it to those who are equipped and set up for such tasks...and once again...

U R a serious "handout" yourself and need to help yourself, like the saying goes.... as charity begins at home,

God helps those who helps themselves....

Make that a promised & workable resolution in 2007.!!! - YB.
