The economic expert to the growing calls for a market economy may be valid and important to address the economic imbalances suffered by Iraq. He noted that the role of government remains effective in achieving economic stability through achieving the required growth. Dr. Mahmoud guerrilla professor at the University of Baghdad : It must tax policy, monetary and exchange rate policies

I'm guessing things are still quiet regarding any sort of news??? This is starting to get a bit nerve wrecking just waiting to hear ANYTHING at all lol.

I forget if this was mentioned at all yet but is there a specific date as to when the ISX is supposed to open on world markets or is it just speculation? I know that some said in July sometime but it would help if someone can find an actual date if at all possible?

Mike, are you still hearing .40 and Adam, are you still hearing between .70-$1.00? Thanks again to Mike, Adam and anyone else supplying any sort of info about this investment.

    Cheers all,

    Rob

    Update,

Nothing has changed, no news at all, which would make sense at this point using logics. (g) As to ISX, it is on schedule.

The Iraqi Association of Securities Dealers recently completed the move to its new headquarters in central Baghdad.

Computers have arrived and are being set up in preparation for upcoming training courses.

Capital markets experts from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded IZDIHAR project are providing institutional development support and helping to build the capacity of the organization.

The Iraqi Association of Securities Dealers represents 51 brokerage companies that trade on the Iraq Stock Exchange, providing training, educational and professional assistance to its members

    Hi Mike,

So from what I've gathered, the Foreign Investment Law enactment is waiting on the Kurds at this point in time. Once enacted, seems to me the ONLY thing left is for the ISX to be up and running, but it only makes sense that some sort of peg/reval would need to happen before the ISX is fully operational, right? I wonder, in the general scheme of things, (since you are no novice in this arena) was there the same type of silence before other currencies pegged, (for instance Kuwait's,) that we are currently experiencing?

    Hi Kate,

I remember Mike saying earlier that it wasn't the same situation with Kuwait, that the value of the currency increased over time rather than quickly as a result of a reval.

It seems we are getting a lttle nervous (myself incuded) with waiting around with not much news, although Mike's input does provide some reassurance. Perhaps it's an underlying fear of success, but I sure hope this is not something (else) that will go sour at the last minute.

    Kathy
