Thanks for that. I vaguely remember now that the Kuwaiti dinar took some time, but it just keep going up and up and really bounced back after Desert Storm. But it has been 3 years now since we went into Iraq, granted, there is still alot to do, it just seems that something is in the air. I think in the back of all our minds is just what you brought up..that something will "go south" at the last moment. Certainly anything is possible, but it makes no sense that all of the sudden the "chatter" sources that OSW/Adster hear from are silent. We can only hope...

I don't know if it has any bearing, but the US voted down two different bills today that would have provided proposed dates for the redeployment of US troops in Iraq. I've heard SO many opinions from both sides of the debate, they want us to stay, they don't want us to stay, if we leave civil war will erupt, if we stay they aren't motivated to do it themselves, yada yada yada. It does occur to me though, that if the government fears that a US pullout will further de-stablize the area, they might have been waiting a bit to see how the votes went in the Senate today. Any opinions?

Actually, I don't think there was ever a chance that Congress would vote to place a time table on pulling out of Iraq. It would go against all military common sense where strategy is concerned. It was just a show by the Democrats, trying to get atttention because of upcoming congressional elections. The President was not worried about it; I sure no one in Iraq was worried about it, either. JMHO.
