you determine that one dinar equals $1.69.

This is not unlike the phraseology that a Georgian and a Floridian use
when referring the the annual football game between the two schools.
The Georgian calls it the Georgia-Florida game, and the Floridian calls it the
    Florida-Georgia game.

Similarly, if this analysis turns out to be accurate, an American would probably say that one dollar equals .59 dinars, and an Iraqi would probably say that one dinar equals 1.69 dollars.

    My humble thanks Ranger ,
I understood what Choochie was saying, but this explanation really put it all in perspective. From Choochie's explanation, I was thinking it was just another difference of conversion, similar to metric/standard, litre/gallon, etc, etc, etc. I was still using the cent ratio of the American dollar as I was thinking .59 to the dollar instead of 59 dinar to the dollar. I totally appreciate your time and helping me to understand this. I was truly beginning to think it must have something to do with a type of math that I never took, which in a sense, I guess it was...I never took currency conversion math .

Thanks again to Ranger and Choochie

Psssst, rv did you see this?

OH NO!!!...now that I got this all figured out, you are going to tell me that it is the other way around after all . I appreciate the clarification, but now I will take my toys and go play by myself in my corner of the sandbox .

    Default I have to say

This may be the wrong place to say this but, I have my disagreements with SGS, and I probably shouldn't publically called her Saddam Susie and lamented on her less than subtle volcanic vocabulary. But you have got to give it to her, She does know this subject in and out, and what she doesnt know, she has the ability, and the sources to find out. I dont think we will ever be sending flowers and candy on Valentines day to each other, But you got to admire her for her ability to get to the point in twenty five words or less.

I saw that post, but had forgotten it when I posted this. I appreciate the reminder. I will do that, thank you.

Don't get me wrong, .59 is a great deal...just $1.69 sounded so much better and by the time I figured out what this was about, my balloon had been bursted . I feel like whatever they think is good for the Iraqi citizens is fine by me.

Best wishes to all...I will share my toys again now

it would explain how he said 1:1 or BETTER just last week and is now stating a more accurate rate in that range as $.59 isnt there.

also of note, if they want to return to their original rate it would seem more realistic to do it in about two increments instead of several considering adjustment of prices etc. i have heard rumor of a second reval following the initial one, within a year, which will double the amount of the first one. if you consider the original rate and take half of it youre around that 1.60 something range. hmmm...

This is why I think for many people this roller coaster ride will last longer than many people think. I am sure many will cash out everything quickly, but many will hold onto some (most?) for months or years longer. We will be here for months and years to come trying to figure out what those Iraqi's will pull out of the hat next. Then again, if I cash out 20-50% (you pick your own figure) who cares how much higher...
