Welcome, no date set for IC, just 'this month', nothing on IC site yet. Here some dates.

10 March, Meeting over Baghdad, neighbouring countries and 5 members of Security Council to attend.

10-17 March, HCL should be passed by parliament, (am allowing more time here).

22 March, SBA expiry providing IMF happy, (all looking good).

Sometime in March, big meeting at the UN to finalize agreements on the IC. Dozens of countries to attend.

Early April, big meeting with G8, neighbouring countries including Syria and Iran. (follow up to the meeting above).

    17/18 April, Oil Summit.

30 April, Bush, EU leaders discuss Iraq, Afghanistan, Mideast issues.
Zubaidi:Monetary value of the Iraqi dinar must revert to the previous level, or at least to acceptable levels as it is in the Iraqi neighboring states.

Shabibi:The bank wants as a means to affect the economic and monetary policy by making the dinar a valuable and powerful.

Iraq joins the World Trade Organization
    Translated by IRAQdirectory.com - [03/03/2007]
Greg Howell, official in charge of developing the private sector in the American Agency for International Development in Baghdad, said on Saturday that the Iraqi government has completed the procedures to request membership in the World Trade Organization.

Howell added in a press conference held in Baghdad that the Iraqi government is preparing to hold the first dialogue with the Organization next April in Geneva, Switzerland. He pointed out that Iraq had submitted a request for membership in the Organization in 2004 and formed a working group to examine the demand and coordinate with the Iraqi government on reforming the trade policy and the requirements needed to join the World Trade Organization.

He pointed out that the Iraqi government has completed all procedural conditions in order to convene a meeting for the Group in charge of joining the Organization, pointing out that the gains of joining WTO are ensuring access of Iraqi goods and services without discrimination to foreign markets, as well as gaining more stable trade relations.

IF they have not revalued by the time membership to the WTO has happened come the summer then once released onto the markets the rate will rise rapidly for sure. Huge companies will want in expecting a rise in value which is inevitable. With all the problems between the US and Iran once sanctions are in place then Saudi and Iraq will take up the mantle for sure and be in more demand. And guess what? Doesn't supply and demand drive values up?

All depends which way they choose to go.....I have heard and believe a hard peg will happen very soon......One that will make us all happy. With all the negotiations on contracts for the big oil boys in the up and coming meetings they need to have the rate done before IMO.

Either way we win. The WTO membership is kinda like covering all bases in baseball terms.

Agreed..What was bothering me here is the idea the US ambassador offering congrats. Considering that this is such a touchy point for the US I do not believe we would offer a premature praise. these boys might consider that work for the year otherwise.....Smokescreens abound here but praise does not.
It seems that the state insists, or preserve the value of the Iraqi dinar 148 against the dollar ...Monetary value of the Iraqi dinar must revert to the previous level, or at least to acceptable levels as it is in the Iraqi neighboring states [ MOF Sept 2006]

The other important FACT is that with all the big oil contracts that will be made from the IC meeting , Oil Summit and other up and coming meetings is Iraq has to have a rate set by then to write into those contracts.
The HCL once passed will allow this. The deals will be made prior to the implementation of the HCL. Although oil will still be paid for in dollars, contractors and workers will be paid in dinars. Do you think there will be enough in circulation at the current rate to do this? LOL.

    Laters.

These are all interesting points. As far as HCL we will know soon. The GCC countries have all mentioned RV of their currencies for nearly a year now with some countries being undervalued to the tune of 27% [UAE] mybe they are trying to stay ahead of the curve or perhaps the timing will shroud the historical event of Iraqi RV.

The last point is the major one IMO the dinar conundrum as Greenspan would say, print or release tons of dinar to cover the volume needed or RV the value hmmmmmmmmm...I wonder which they'll choose...i'll bet ole Tea Biscuit is flipping his top hat about now.....
