joydot,
im from the gold coast (aka sin city) and i can tell you that there are people from all races who beleive that aussie girls/women are fair game.
this is a personal belief and has nothing to do with race/religion etc. we have paedophilia here, incest, rape. etc. politicians, teachers, professionals are found with child pronography. step fathers raping their daughters. religious leaders guilty of the same.
women are taught not to accept drink sfrom strangers and stay in groups to reduce the chance of rape. Are teh women told that this can only happen from people of certain race or creed? i think not.
over 60,000 cases of dometic violence is UNREPORTED. how mayn of those relate to immigrants? i'm sure u've seen the ads (Again), advicing women to report domestic violence. the ad shows women of different backgrounds. why not just asians or middle easterns, etc. ?
It's naive to think that some of this stuff is "imported" when in reality, it is universal irrespective of race/nationality/religion or creed. culture has nothing to do with it. it is personal belief.
I know what you are referring to. if you ask people of the same race regarding these statements, you will get various answers. if you go further and talk to people of other races, again, you will find that u will get answers that are pro and anti exploitation of women.
I am a man and when i talk to other guys, i have found that when we talk about women, some of these people look at women as meat. again, people of different cultures who feel that women are sexual objects. irrespective of wealth, religion, etc.
nothing to do with culture. again, it's the media who hype it up and paly the blame fame. It's more spectacular when you blame a race/religion than individuals or families.
i agree with your opinion on outside interference. No country or organisation has the right to criticse the laws and regulations of oter countries.
As far as assimilation goes, that will never happen. integration is actualyl a better solution and should be compulsory for both nationals and immigrants in my opinion. definitions:
assimilate: To absorb (immigrants or a culturally distinct group) into the prevailing culture.
integrate: - To make into a whole by bringing all parts together; unify.
-To join with something else; unite.
- To make part of a larger unit: integrated the new procedures into the work routine.
- To admit (a racial or ethnic group) to equal membership in an institution or society.
what would you say is the right thing to do? to tell immigrants to forget their heritage/religion/culture or bring out the best of both worlds and share so we can appreciate our differences (and possibly benefit from each other).
no two people are alike. that's a matter of fact.

finally, no one expects you to change just like you don't expect others to become like you. fact is, in all religions and cultures, there are people who practise it to various degrees and im talking about people within the same family.
they don't expect each other to change and im sure you will agree that it is ludicrous to even think that a nation can be forced to follow other beliefs.
i mean, we have people here who argue for and against the terrorism act, our pm, fluridation of water, etc. so man diverse views. and this happens in countries all over teh world regardless of the type of political ideology e.g democracy, communism, theocracy, etc.

Well Granny can't do no worse that what is running the world now and surely she would be more thrifty when it comes to money ... She knows how hard it is to make a dollar ...
politicians ..big business and of course the BANKS .. ( The MEN in BLACK ) keep us poor ..If it wasn't for us Poor ..the people who REALLY keeps the world moving ..The RICH wouldn't know how rich they were .... Hell they need us ..
They dish out monetary cheques and pat us on the back and say there we love our citizens one and all ..see what we are giving you ...
Even If you are lucky enough to be in middle class ( what ever that really means ) IF you are lucky enough to own your own home ..If you don't pay those taxes .. You are thrown out on your Butt for none payment ..
Does anyone truly stops to think about living the American dream
( And I don't care what part of the world you live in )
is all an elusion because in fact WE really don't own anything ..... Even when we own it ..WE don't own it ... BANKS, Big Business & politics go hand in had to keep us poor to line their pockets ...
Granny rules with a big stick ..but in a loving and caring way ...
No ... BANKS, Big Business & politics will ever treat us poor with respect BUT only as little workers to keep their pockets lined in Green Backs..
I Say
Go Granny ,Go Granny ,GO
IMHO

Or Kris Kringle or Pere Noel. It all depends on your locale.

Immigrants
Just to clarify.
I am not against immigrants or immigration (in fact the majority of immigrants are very grateful for the country which they have chosen but there is a few that maybe should reconsider their options), but what I do not like are immigrants who come to our great country and then complain and INSIST that we change our ways because they are OFFENDED by what we do or say or INSIST that their language be the prominent in our street signs etc. or IGNORE our laws because they don't suit them.
I know there are a lot of national born citizens who don't respect the law etc but when the immigrants cry "harassment" etc. because they get questioned and/or charged over some offence or whinge because they think we should make allowances for their culture despite their actions being blatently against the laws of the land. THAT OFFENDS me!
When politicians fall over backwards and can't move quickly enough to say we'll adjust things so that other cultures are not OFFENDED but do ABSOLUTELY nothing when I am offended because I have to lose what has been a cultural tradition in my own country.
That is why I object to and say to them if things are so OFFENSIVE then perhaps they should reconsider their country of CHOICE and find one that is less offensive to their feelings (more like their original home).
While one side of the argument is the only one compromising "multiculturism" (or whatever you want to call it) WILL NOT work no matter how you dress it up.

When in Rome, do as Romans do.
When in the US, do as Americans do (speak English)
