The dollar on the other hand, does appears to be sliding in a backwards direction. I saw a news article showing all these happy people from around the world coming here to shop for our goods. I think the motto was " if you're travelling to the US, don't take anything, buy it all when you get there." That made me a little steamed, but I know this country will recover. So in the meantime, it would not hurt us to diversify our wealth, and let our economy recover from this long war which I still send my troops to on a regular basis. I don't think Danny would ever give the impression that he has given up on this patch of Earth we call home. I think he wants us to stay wealthy and teach our children and children's children to stay that way as well. I have my eye on several different commodities and real estate to keep my family in the mixed, there is no harm in telling folks to do that. Danny51, I applaude you!

Cos they'd be the easiest to hack probably - I doubt they would have/spent a third of much as other international banks on internet security etc. Judging by the way their site looks, I think my 10 yr old son would have done a better job at designing a more professional look.

9:00 AM Iraq time and still no CBI website. Look for it to come bask on Thursday with the new rate.

First, I think I recall someone saying that most likely the CBI website is hosted outside of the country - Possibly in the U.K. If that is the case, then the U.K. host most likely has safeguards in place to deter hackers. Now safeguards aren't the end-all, be-all against hackers - Everyone knows that. Hackers can still get past them. So that means someone has to spend the time and energy to bypass those safeguards. By that reason alone, I sincerely doubt that someone would go through the trouble, just to "annoy" us speculators.

I'm not saying they weren't hacked, but I am saying that if that is indeed the case, it is not because of us speculators. I just have a hard time believing that WE are that important to give us a hard time. I honestly don't have any real rational explanation for why, but my gut just says that if they got hacked, it wasn't because of us and our optimism.

I'm not trying to be argumentative with you - just merely stating my opinions on the matter. I mean, if they got hacked, okay... Just reload the site from the latest back-ups that the Host Provider has, bring it back online so as to not fuel further speculation, and then start the investigation as to what happened, and how to stop it.

In my line of work, that is always the priority. If a site goes down, job one is to get it back up there... PRONTO. And THEN start trying to figure out what the heck happened, and how to prevent it from happening again. You sure as poop-nuggets don't park your domain for a couple of days, and twiddle your thumbs about. Anyone with half a brain would avoid doing that. I know we all love to make fun of the Iraqis for being Bass-Ackwards, but I can't imagine even them pulling a stunt like this. Stranger things have happened though - I am ruling nothing out at this point in time. I'm simply going to wait and see what there is to be seen once the site comes back up.

I've said it before, and I'll continue to say it: I'm not suggesting that a Reval is the reason for the site being offline. But, I do believe something is fishy here - Something is missing from this equation, and I doubt we'll know what it is until the site comes back - At the very earliest. And it's possible we may never know what happened.

    Just my $0.02 worth.
I think if someone hacked into the CBI and really wanted to play a trick on speculators that they would change the rate to something like 12,690,000/1 USD or some crazy devaluation of the dinar instead of what we saw the other day...

No new look, no new denoms, no explanation for the absence.

The difference between then and now is the fact that there was no "Parked" site. The site simply vanished. I remember the conclusion being the server went down and there was no backup plan at the time.

Perhaps they learned from that experience and have now "parked" the site until they fix the problem (again).

I fear that we will simply see the same thing happen again. The site will magically reappear and "act as if nothing ever happened".

Hopefully one little details will have changed and we all know what that is!

Yes, but last time the site was not taken down because of something that was posted on the website... It's quite obvious that the site was parked because of the exchange rate that was shown. The last time it went down there was really no clear explanation, but now they have a very valid reason to park the site... I still think someone slipped up and we'll see something new when it gets back online.
