The validity of using IP addresses is, as you say, suspect. For instance, I use an ISP that apparently gives me a dynamic IP. If you check this, not only does it change (slightly) but it gives my location as in the UK. I'm in the middle of France! Others who may use the same ISP will come up with similar numbers I suspect. This is especially apparent when one is on a dial-up system as I am - ADSL hasn't found my bit of rural France yet!

What is quite likely to have happened here, is that the ISP has one (or several) proxy servers that all traffic routes through.

It is highly possible that the IP found for mechcash was one of these, and that it blocked the originating IP, replacing it with the proxy one. Therefore thousands of people may appear to have the same IP.

The originating IP is unlikely to be the actual computer anyway. At best it's going to be that of the nearest firewall that is doing NAT. At worst, it could be a router at the ISP.

    Good luck to all, Mike
What are my chances? What are my odds? It goes like this:

Last year I switched my California driver's license to Texas. In less than two months after that, they called me for jury duty. My sister has had a Texas license for 10-15 years. She's yet to be called for Jury duty.

I conclude that the odds are nothing more than an *illusion*. The good news about that is, I really could win the lottery even if I *think* I probably won't.
