You are right seigan...I apologize. However, I must make one last response, albeit brief.

My issue is with catagorizing people as ignorant because we don't hold the "honour" of a lawyer. Dare I say that someone who deigns to believe that everyone else is ignorant just because he/she has attained (through whatever means or course of study) a higher station in life is a danger to the society they claim to hold together. It reeks of elitism and there's too much of that in this world as it is.

Finally, the last time I checked, Roman law didn't work out too well. The society that was the Roman empire collapsed; so much for lawyers/attorneys holding it all together with their (correct spelling this time) Jurisprudence. Come down off your perch that looks down on everyone and you just might learn something that's not kept in a book.

It went down due to the corruption and moral decay of its aristocracy, which by the way you talk and treat people, I'm sure you would have fit right in. Surely, a suitable legal structure would have "held the society together" since societies need you lawyers so badly, as you were so happy to tell us "ignorants" earlier.

I feel a "lockdown" coming to this thread (sorry Shell; can't seem to help myself). Feel free to PM me tarzancio if you wish to continue this or feel free to move over to the TG forum...You'll fit right in.

There is a need for oversight of our justice system but it's not incumbent upon lawyers to be that check or balance. Before the lawyers' political action committees got laws passed "forcing" people to use lawyers for routine tasks, people in the legal profession were people of high moral character and good common sense; this used to be the criteria for selecting judges. It had little or nothing to do with them being a lawyer before-hand. Once laws were passed forcing us to use you sharks, the profession took a nose-dive in the morality department. The original founding fathers of the U.S. had a sincere distaste for lawyers/attorneys due to the fact they had been awarded (or in some cases sold) "honours" by the various BAR associations of the time which, if effect, the lawyers served the bestowers of those honours and not the people they claim to represent.

As far as, ignorance, your dismissal of people based on your perceived understanding of their level of education shows where the ignorance lies. It is all yours. The modern lawyer is nothing more than someone who paid for several years of college and has demonstrated that they can memorize a large amount of information (needed to pass the BAR). After passing the BAR, they basically financially rape people while their legal assistants and secretaries do all their work. You're just a face and a suit.
    Funny,

Reminds me of a lawyer joke, for which they all are. LOL

Might as well get a laugh instead of getting mad.

A Charlotte, NC, lawyer purchased a box of very rare
and expensive cigars, then insured them against fire
    among other things.

Within a month having smoked his entire stockpile of
these great cigars and without yet having made even
his first premium payment on the policy, the lawyer
filed claim against the insurance company.

In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost
"in a series of small fires." The insurance company
refused to pay, citing the obvious reason: that the
man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion.

Unbelievably, the lawyer sued ... and won!

In delivering the ruling the judge agreed with the
insurance company that the claim was frivolous.

The Judge stated nevertheless, that the lawyer held
a policy from the company in which it had warranted
that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed
that it would insure them against fire, without
defining what is considered to be "unacceptable
    fire,"
and was obligated to pay the claim.

Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process,
the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid
$15,000 to the lawyer for his loss of the rare cigars
    lost in the "fires."

    NOW FOR THE BEST PART...

After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance
company had him arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!

With his own insurance claim and testimony from
the previous case being used against him, the
lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning
his insured property and was sentenced to 24
months in jail and a $24,000 fine.

This is a true story and was the 1st place winner
in the recent Criminal Lawyers Award Contest!

    Good luck to all, Mike
