Oil ministry to set up contract department

Baghdad, Jan 13, (VOI) – The oil ministry plans to set up a department for studying and signing oil contracts with companies investing in Iraq, a ministry spokesman said on Saturday.
"Twenty persons responsible for signing contracts headed today to Norway on a two-month mission to receive training courses on mechanisms followed by advanced nations in the field of oil contract signing," Aasem Jihad told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
This department would supervise all contracts signed by the ministry as well as negotiations with foreign companies willing to invest in Iraq, he added.

Maliki urges parliament to speed up approval of draft budget

Baghdad, Jan 14, (VOI) - Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Sunday called on parliament to accelerate adoption of the draft budget for 2007 in a bid to avoid postponing vital projects.
"You are all aware of the exceptional circumstances and security pressures Iraq is going through, not to mention the accumulative heavy burdens of the former eras on the government budget," al-Maliki said in a statement read by Parliament Speaker Dr. Mahmoud al-Mashhadani upon the inauguration of Sunday's session.
Maliki said: "The offered budget is based on clear realistic considerations. Iraq is about to build its armed forces with all its formations in preparation to receive the security file from the multinational forces by the end of this year."
He referred to "the state's commitment to spend on the ration cards system and the social safety network despite their financial burdens on the budget."
Maliki pointed out that the 2007 budget has allocated 10 billion dollars for investment, the largest sum ever in the history of Iraqi budgets to be appropriated for investments.
"This year's budget does not meet all the government's ambitions. We hoped that the largest sums would be channeled into the field of investment, but it is a realistic budget that took into consideration Iraq's exceptional circumstances," the Iraqi premier said.

High demand for the dollar is very high

Increased demand for the dollar in meeting the Central Bank today, Sunday, a large recording 103 million and 410 thousand dollars compared to 56 million and 840 thousand dollars last Thursday.

This is the highest demand for the dollar in four months.

The daily bulletin of the Central Bank, which received the news agency (Voices of Iraq) independent copy of the request distributed today by 21 million and 910 thousand dollars in cash and 81 million 500 thousand dollars in the form of remittances outside the bank full coverage of exchange rate amounted to 1315 dinars, which is the same rate of the previous meeting.

The bulletin pointed out that the 14 banks submitted bids for the sale of 75 thousand dollars, the bank bought at the 1313 dinars.

For his part, Sinan Shabibi governor of the Iraqi Central Bank monetary policy established by the Central Bank to support the exchange rate of the dinar supports the investment budget was done in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance.

Hello everyone. Over 220Million USD worth of dinar (280billion dinar) taken out over the last 5 auctions. Even though they have not moved the exchange rate they have been busy. I thnk by now we know that removal of currency in these amounts is the next best thing to an increase in the exchange rate, Let'em keep taking the dinar out. They can't keep doing this forever. Expect more reports of drying up and we'll see what this statement about holding the exchange rate through the 14th means shortly. Thank You. It all looks good for us. Its good to be back.
