    No...as it states above...

The Constitutional committee will present their collection of 50 amendments to the constitition to Parliament on the 15th and as that is Friday they would need to wait till Sunday the 17th to actual introduce this package bill for its first reading before Parliament.

Please re-read the above mentioned links you will see that in the two days since the President returned to Iraq there has been more activities, more meetings and more words of coming together and now that the PM has given his plan 20 days and Washington giving them till 30 June to get everything done...it is looking very good.

Also, please note the postings about the committee on constructional Amendments and how all the measures that everyone wants individually...are all going to be packaged together as one "UP OR DOWN" VOTE So, if you want your piece of the pie you will need to vote for everyone's.

The PM and the President have always said that they had the votes but, they couldn't get it to the floor of the Parliament for a vote because of several members of the committee blocked the vote, everytime. This time, for whatever reason they will not block it's passage out of committee to the floor for a vote.

Not saying anything about a RV but, just all the bills that need to be in place to reach the required benchmarks...as the leadership really seems scared this time and ready to make the deal.

As we have seen in the past, they have worked thru the weekend before. Perhaps they will do so that weekend. They do seem to be pushing hard to get things done. JMHO

Thanks for the clarification. So, come the 17th i.e., Sunday, they will have their FIRST READING...we all know how slow they read stuff, don't we?! This will invariably drag on for months...jmho

Thanks Fred, once again you have done a fabulous job of keeping us informed.

Thanks Fred. Sounds very positive. Now if they have the first reading on the 17th, and with the requirement of 3 readings before they pass laws, they should have enough time before 30 June to hold the other two readings (maybe one per week)?

I'm going to go out on a limb here Fred, but I would bet that RfxLady is correct. Expect to see a special session over the weekend with everything wrapped up fast, fast, fast if they really are going to vote on all 50 amendments..... Hmm, and just in time to go on their 2 month vacation. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but didn't their two month vacation begin about the middle of June last year and end around August 20th, seems like that would be close to the same this year should they just happen to wrap it all up quickly, eh?

My guess is all laws passed and no RV until sometime after their summer break! What a way to get rid of more speculators! This is what I would do!

I thought their 2 month vacation was shortened to only 2 weeks - can't remember where I read it but I'm sure it was from an announcement from Maliki himself.

The cancelled vacation was announced, but I am speculating that cancelling the vacation was a smokescreen to create confusion and imply that they would be working on these laws all summer and thus no RV in the near future. It is pure speculation on my part. I'm probably wrong, but who knows, maybe they will get it all done on the 17th like fred has been posting. Would work out well for all concerned. Good for the country and the PM's.
