Yes that is the biggest roadblock to this investment. I bought some thru a friend for a little under 12,000 to 1. It was a one time deal. still looking for a source at a reasonable rate. Lets keep looking i know we can find one. too !!!!!!!!

I called my local Chase bank today where I purchase NID from and asked if I can purchase VND from them. They looked it up in their system and told me it was not on their system. Since it was not, they cannot sell it. I asked if they had plans to sell it and they told me they did not know since it was not on their system.

Anyone know of any other place (other than Ebay) where I can purchase some from?

I've been looking around for Dong at eBay during the last days and found that there are quite a lot of offers, also for smaller denoms.

My first million came in 10 notes @ 100,000 Dong. But even though the lower denominations seem more attractive to me, I'm only interested in the new polymer bills as they just have better security features. Those seem to start at 10,000 Dong.

Just for fun I've bid the minimum amount on some offers for single 20,000 Dong notes that started @ 0.01 Cent only - and in 2 or 3 cases I really won the auction at that price! But unless you happen to win more than one of those auctions from the same seller this way to obtain your Dong isn't as cheap as it may seem at first glance, as you have to consider the shipping costs too.... So be careful and calculate well!

BUT - I also bid a little more than USD 50 for ten 50,000 Dong notes, which makes another half million. And though I was outbid by 10 Cents, I received a "second chance" offer from the seller which I gladly accepted!

As I had paid USD 179 for my first million this really is a great price!

Seems like there aren't too many people buying Dong yet, though I noticed a small raise in price since I'm at it.

So now I am the proud owner of more that 1,5 million Dong! Well almost - of course I don't know how long it's gonna take until my newly purchased Dong arrive here. But as I paid though PayPal all of them are insured.

Just to let you know and share my joyeous anticipation with you.... :-)

My question concerning the Dong, (I already bought from a Minnesota bank) is, anybody have new data that points to acceptance into the World Trade Organization for Viet Nam? Last I heard was consideration and discussion about Viet Nam will commence at the upcoming WTO November 6, 2006.
    Thank you
We know it is a bank in Minnesota but could you tell us the name of the bank please.
As for WTO: . The next meeting of the Working Party is scheduled to take place on 26 October 2006.

    Hi Everyone,

I have invested in the Iraq Dinar and have just noticed the Dong. I have some questions.

    Have they reprinted their currency?

Is it more like the Lira than the Dinar (like the Dinar hopefully is going to be at least 1 Dinar to 1 Dollar)?

When do you think it might RV?

How much do you think it will RV at?

Who is the best person to buy from and what size note to buy?

If they have not reprinted their money do you think they will reprint before an RV?

I think this is all the questions for now.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello All

I would like to know why this currancy is expected to rise in value.

I work with a vietnamese woman, who maintains contact with relatives in

Vietnam. I asked her feelings about the Dong, and she doesn't see the value

going anywhere. But she's kinda negative about the government there cause

    they are communist.

What factors could influence the value?

    Thanks!

Sorry for the late answer, but didnt see your post!

Anyway, the viatnemese dong is probably the currency behind Iraq that is extremly devalued and needs a boost. Even though Vietnam havent got the same amount of oil, they have so much other things that Iraq doesnt have.

Some of the things Vietnam exports:

    Oil
Agriculture (wich includes rice, coffee, rubber, cashewnuts, tea.)
    Seafood
    Garments and textiles
    Footwear
    Electronic and computer goods etc.

And the tourism is better than ever.

So a lop will not happen if you ask me!
It is not convertable at this point but will be soon.

Regarding joining WTO. This is what Deputy Trade Minister Le Danh Vinh said.

"Following Viet Nam's important progress over the past six months, the goal of joining the WTO should be realised in the very near future.
With respect to subsidies that are prohibited under the SCM Agreement, Viet Nam commits to eliminate subsidies contingent upon localisation ratios or the use of domestic over imported goods and subsidies in the form of direct payment from the State budget contingent upon export performance upon of accession to the WTO," Vinh added.

And here is some more info and questions!!

Could you brief on FDI in Vietnam in general and FDI by US businesses in Vietnam in particular after Prime Minister Phan Van Khai’s visit to the US in July 2005?

MoPI statistics show that Vietnam lured $6.8 billion last year, up 49.7% over the previous year. In the last 5 months of 2005 only, $3.6 billion of FDI was attracted.

In the January – July period this year, foreign investors put $3.7 billion in Vietnam, up 17.3% over a year ago. On the other hand, since the Prime Minister’s US visit, Vietnam has attracted around $7.3 billion of FDI capital.

Currently, US companies have 289 valid FDI projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of over $2 billion. With a total realized capital of around $777 million, the US ranks 9th among 74 countries and territories with FDI in Vietnam.

In the first 8 months of this year, 25 US projects worth $444.2 million were licenced and in this period, the US ranked 3rd among 33 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

In particular, since Intel injected $605 million in Vietnam early this year, US investors have shown special interest for the Vietnamese market. Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates paid visit to Vietnam, also.

Asian investors present over 70% of number of projects and registered capital while US firms make up only less than 5%. Could you explain this?

US investment in Vietnam has not matched potential. Despite the BTA playing an important role in promoting trade relations between the two countries, enhancing the business environment in Vietnam and improving investors’ confidence, FDI by US investors in Vietnam remains at a modest level.

However, if investment through a third country is included, FDI by US companies in Vietnam amounts around $3 billion and the US ranks 7th among 74 countries and territories with investment in Vietnam.

Vietnam is going to become a WTO member and the US will possibly grant PNTR to Vietnam this year. How will this impact FDI flow from the US into Vietnam in the future?

The US is big investor in the world. What concern US companies are tax preferences, market, business costs, labour skills, infrastructures, legal transparency and stability and administrative procedures.

With advantages in terms of capital and technology, US investors can operate in almost every field of the Vietnamese economy.

FDI from the US will likely to increase quickly after Vietnam becomes an official member of the WTO, opening up the service sector in accordance with the BTA and other WTO commitments.

Many believe that there will be a big flow of FDI into Vietnam in the coming time. How do you comment?

By implementing the Investment and Corporate Laws, Vietnam shows equal treatment for businesses of all sectors.

In addition, the Government’s efforts in improving infrastructures as well as advantages in terms of geographical location, human resources and natural resources will help Vietnam increase competitiveness to lure a new wave of FDI.

Moreover, WTO membership, socio-political stability and high economic growth rate also make Vietnam an attractive place for investors.

Can Vietnamese businesses invest in the US market and in which fields do you think?

So far, Vietnamese companies have had 16 projects worth a total of $7.4 billion in the US.

The numbers remain small; they indicate new developments in economic relations between Vietnam and the US.

The Vietnamese Government encourages companies in Vietnam, both local and foreign, to invest overseas. The encouraged fields are those requiring much labour exports, promoting traditional products of Vietnam; expanding markets in invested countries; and boosting exports.

I should have backtracked first I guess.
    Thanks for the input.
