OK guys, here's a good one...As most of you guys know, i have NEVER placed a naysayer post. EVER. But i have been thinking...When the ISX opens up Aug 1 to foreign investors, WHY do they actually need to reval? Let's say the IQD is/stays at 1250/1 USD. The iraquis are still buying at this price, and so would we. Then, after we come in and start buying, and then 1,2, 3 months go by. Why cannot the companies just do a reverse split to make it (the value) as it should be? If i am not mistaken, this could actually happen, and a few stockbrokers i know and have talked to say that it could also. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Hunter

Hello MoneyHunter.
I have a friend that is a Professional trader too. This below is his thoughts. Also a couple of examples he sent me of what people do just did to the markets of lower rates to push them and score and get out. Enjoy
The way I consider the ISX is it is a timeline to watch for a RV. Here I will show you why if Iraq opens up at that cheap rate why it will only hurt and destroy companies. It will not only hurt the company but push away long term investors. Sorry for the links, I have not figured how to post pics yet.
Look at what people did to this stock yesterday. As you will see it's rate is twice that of Iraq. Iraq is presently at .0007 and this stock is at .002. They ran it up and then left them to dry. This does not benefit companies at all.
AWYI.OB: Basic Chart for ARIEL WAY INC - Yahoo! Finance
As you will see here they never gain but sink.
AWYI - SharpCharts 2 from StockCharts.com
This is what was done today to this stock. Tommorrow it wll be nothing.
IVGR.OB: Basic Chart for INVICTA GROUP - Yahoo! Finance
As you see here they do a down trend which is very bad for investing. Investors will not touch these stocks for nothing.

This is why the ISX needs a RV, if they don't RV then we will simply make all their companies more unstable then they already are an push away long term investors.

I agree that there needs to be a RV before the ISX opens up to non iraqis otherwise anyone could come in and buy up major amounts of stock for pennies and that would leave non iraqis owning their companies. I really don't see them even allowing that possibility to happen.

Yes Mam....
I agree with you. I am not arguing with moneyhunter with his info, I am just showing info from a professional Broker that I know. I understand his theroy plays into all our wishes, but it does make more sence with the examples of resent that his group has just exposed for our viewing. He has also explained to me that in their line of work, what they really look for is "Eectronic Trading". This is even faster for Professional Brokers to make the Trades and Move on.

Yes, this could happen, but imo this is the LOP argument because how does this help the Iraqi people?
For example, if a company has 100,000,000 shares outstanding, and you buy 1,000,000 at 20 dinar/share at the current exchange rate. Now if they reverse split 6X you would now have 15,600 shares (I think. Not a math expert) and there would be 1,560,000 shares outstanding. The shares are now worth 1280 dinar/share. If the company is worth while (like an oil, gas, bank or soft drink company) those shares are now scarce. Supply and demand will take over and they should skyrocket. Let's say the shares go to 25,000 dinars/share (equal to @ $20/share) how do these transactions take place? Does this make the dinar "powerful?" Does it return the dinar to its "former value?" These were goals of the GOI.
I've always thought if the GOI wants to screw investors they MUST screw their own people too. Could happen, but not likely imo.

I wonder how their stock market is structured - do they have (aaaarrrrgh! senility is setting in! what do they call them??!!! It's not official, it's not designated, it's not registered, aaaarrrrgh!) You know, those traders that are assigned to a particular stock and they provide stability (to avoid the 193? (there's that senility again!) crash ever happening again) by buying up the stock if it's getting "dumped"???

Good point
Your friend is right on Neno. If they don't RV before ISX the cheap stock prices would become a playground for syndicated crime ie German, Italian and Russian Mafias, day traders, pumpers and dumpers, naked short traders (which I believe is illegal in US) and market manipulators. Did I forget anyone?
This would benefit no one except the ones with millions in currencies to invest which enables them to suck millions out of the Iraqi stockmarket. Talk about volatility.
Just my thoughts.

I take issue with your statement about the Iraqis being 'less than clueless'.
The Iraqis are in fact known to be well educated, intelligent, fiercely proud and productive. Problem is, they were stuck with a murderous dictator who pretty much shut them dowm, except for profiting himself. The people had no choice but to do Saddam's will or die.
Now, they have a chance to regain their original status, but after so many years of decimation, it will take time to put things together. You're an attorney...how long does it you take to prepare one maajor case for court and take it through to it's completion? Two years, three years?
Compare this with trying to re-establish a government, stop violence, rebuild structures, restore economic order, etc...all with several factions wanting to protect their interests. This is a monumental task and I feel the Iraqis have been doing very well to get to where they are in so short a time.
I am eagerly anticpating an RV, and occasionally get impatient with the pace that the new government is taking, but this does not make me consider them an ignorant, or 'clueless' people. The fact that they are hashing out all this to the degree they are tells me they are very careful in protecting their future...to translate a desire for a quick rv into a false judgement of the people going through terrible ordeal is non-productive.
I feel the Iraqis should be praised for their efforts, encouraged to accelerate their attainment of solid resolutions and in the future,I believe we will see that these people may once again rise up to be an honorable and prosperous nation.
No offense, 'wiz, just felt that your above post (and some others lately) did not reflect the kind of intelligent thinking I had read from you in the past.
