    Ok, i got my first answer back from the email i sent....

    Thank you for your question. I am forwarding your inquiry to Ben Smith
    in our Museum for comment.

    I have personally seen the outlines of states, images of US Presidents,
    and other things stamped on coins, though they have always been in the
    field around the image on the coin. Most often, I seen them on cents
    and nickels, though there have been things like that on coins of larger
    denominations.

    hopefully mr smith will be able to give me a more expert opinion
