He pilots a Chinook. When I asked him what he's hauling around with that thing, he simply said "bad guys". I guess they use them for transporting "bad guys".

Interesting how this thread has evolved. One thing I know, if Mr. Maliki called me on the phone and said, "it's tomorrow!" IMO...it seems after months of reading on iraqi government and their actions (or lack of), the only thing that is consistant is inconsistancy. In the back of my mind I still believe that the Iraqi government still wants the cake and eat it too. The iraqi government knows, to some extent, that a lot of their money is out of the country and in our hands. It may be a drop in the bucket ratio wise to what they have in country, but to have an infidel to prosper on their behalf is something that they cannot stomach. They would rather have their own people suffer than to get off their butts and do something about it. Trying to teach the iraqi government to be self supporting and proactive is like trying to make a dog walk that has no legs.

One more for TerryTate and Jola's list: Iraq canceled 16,000 food for oil contracts... that has too fuel a fire somewhere on a reval or purchase power.

I found a release today on the Minister of Trade's website saying that we have been misinformed about the ration cards in that article about the food for oil contracts. He says there is enough food to cover the ration cards in 2007. However, he doesn't say if the contracts have been indeed cancelled or not, leaving it open to interpretation. But earlier articles indeed showed that the they are working on stopping them, so I think they did cancel them.

On another note - wheeee, that beer - where is our Danny Boy??

Debt reduction is from the former regime era. New loans as was pointed out to me could simply be packing the treasure chest with dinar pre RV. Loan repayment would be pittance compared to the profit. It is a possibility.

I can relate to the way you feel about low moral S_Cotton.
I felt fairly confident about the rumors of the banks posting an R/V after the 3 days of no auctions, but alas, an auction has occurred.

This is starting to make me think that we really may be watching the number get closer over a long period of time. You would think with all of the food for oil contracts being canceled, all the laws being passed, all the 'secret meetings', and all of the other public meeting being held there would be atleast a slight increase in value. Who am I to assume though, I'm no politician or financial expert, I guess it will be coming in all at once.
Yea, I say this now...but after I hear the next rumor I'll start getting excited again.

You should know as well as anyone that this is the rumor section!!! If you disagree with someone's info there is a nice way to say so!!!
