Why is Facebook banned in China?

I don’t think most of the answers have pointed out the root cause.

Facebook was banned in 2009, after the biggest terrorist attack in China, so-called July 2009 Urumqi riots[1], which happened in Xinjiang Urumqi.

More than 200 peoples died in this attack, and most of them were innocent citizens, including two of my schoolmates.

You might wonder what is the relationships between this terrorist attack and why Facebook has been banned. The only reason is the terrorists planned this attack on Facebook and, Facebook refused to disclose the information of the organizers.

Did Facebook do the right thing? I don’t know, but we must ensure that such a terrorist attack would never happen again in Xinjiang province. That’s why we banned Facebook.
