Know what buddy. YOU ARE DEAD WRONG!!! They do it to get their money and 'criminal activity' has little to do with it. I was in no way criminal and it was proven yet I still had to suffer the frozen accounts...
but how could I expect someone in your line of work to understand such a thing. It is not that I disrespect WHAT you do, it is that I believe a person in your situation has the responsibility to have an understanding of such things. I mean you no disrespect Sopranos, I just need to speak out about this.
    Peace.

Wilder: You are bang on, they do it to get their money.I never suggested that it was criminal, just that the lines of communications close up if it is criminal. I am real sorry that your accounts were frozen and that you had to suffer. This happens to people all of the time and sometimes through no fault of there own.(ie: divorces, identity theft etc) As for me not understanding, do you think my heart doesn't go out to those who I have to visit when its not their fault they are in the sitiuation that they are in? If you think that I have no understanding, I have many reciepts where I have lent total strangers money to help them out in their time of need. And you know, I have been doing this for 25 years now and have never had anyone reneg on paying me back. And of course no interest was ever charged.
BTW what is meant by criminal activity is any proceed gained by drug dealers , fraud artists, theft etc etc.Any assests can be repossed if it was purchased with proceeds of crime. It is then up to the individuals charged with a crime to then prove in court that the assets were not purchased with the proceeds from a criminal act. This also includes bank accounts, stock & bonds etc.I hope you understand Wilder, and again I'm sorry you had to go through what you did.Have a nice night.

I stand corrected. Perhaps I misread your comment previously. It does sound like your heart is in the right place and that you are indeed aware of the injustices that occur everyday in these situations.
    Peace.

You made sure to get receipts and made sure you had assurances of being paid back.....Hmmmm.....Ahem, sounds more like opportunistic business and less like heartfelt sympathy/charity to me...That's just me though...

Now everwiser, you are jumping to conclusions about a figure of speech.

One thing concerns me though Sopranos. It is this statement of yours

"It is then up to the individuals charged with a crime to then prove in court that the assets were not purchased with the proceeds from a criminal act."

I do believe, in this country, the proof needs to come from the prosecution that a criminal activity has taken place, not from the defendant to prove himself innocent, no?

Let's not lose sight of this. It is fundamentally important to us.
    Peace.

Once criminal charges are laid and the defendant is found guilty he then has to prove that the repossesed assets were not purchased from the proceeds of a crime. In alot of cases the assets are investigated by the authorities and anything they deem purchased by proceeds of crime are then repossesed and held by the courts at the same time as the charges are laid.If they are proved to be innocent they get the possessions back.If they are guilty they must prove that they were not purchased by proceeds of crime.

Thank you for clarifying that for me Sopranos. I was really worried for a moment.

I didn't quite look at it that way; I apologize for reading you incorrectly.

My first impression was that you had handled things as if they were a business deal, i.e. receipts, repayment, etc. In my mind, charity is that which is given regardless of any promise or expectation of repayment. It was from this thinking I drew my initial conclusion. Once again, I apologize.

First of all this means nothing to me... nothing. All this says to me is the investigation found "something" and now they are moving on to the next step in the process which is to submit their findings to the prosecutors office to determine if the alledged findings are substantial enough to justify legal action, which was implied on the previous. And like i said this all means nothing at this point. For all we know PipS Inc. has broken or bent some operational regulations and may have to pay some fines. But I don't gather even a hint that this investigation has found anything implicating PIPS or BM in any criminal activity or corruption.

We kept up our end of the deal when we turned our money over.
This part of your post I don't understand as it relates to my original topic. The freindship part lost me.
