YB: In regard to my understanding of whipping, before I print this info I must warn all of you it is quite graphic. Don't want to offend anyone, so if you are one of a weak stomach, don't read any further. Skip the post. Now that you have been warned, here is what was said about whipping:
Apparently they apply some kind of highly caustic sludge coating on the length of the baton. At the point of the whipping, the slapping sound mostly comes from the sludge contacting the flesh and not the baton itself. The real pain apparently comes from when the acid pulls away some of the flesh (like flypaper glue) upon retracting the baton for a second whip.
It is said that the pain is so extreme at times that more often than not the victim loses their bowel controls and often a doctor is called in to ascertain the fitness of the prisoner before they conduct another whipping.
No more than two whippings can be applied within a span of 3 months, which is usually the time it takes for the wounds to heal. Note that they do not necessarily have to whip the buttocks to be classified as a proper whipping. They have been known to hit just below the tailbone or even lower than the buttocks rendering the person unable to walk for weeks.
That's why I thought it was more severe than caning. Not that either one is one I would want to receive. Maybe they are both the same as far as pain and damage inflicted.

Flockstar and Trapper,
You are right. If you look intelligently, all of us would be better of if Bryan is getting free soon. That makes sense for one that want see any money.
Good thinking

No, they are still in jail, but chin-lee believes they are out on bail and running around free. He even posted it. Guess he forgot about the Mention on 5/22 to consider a lowering of their bail. As far as proving their guilt, that will be done in time. His claim they are out on bail sits up there with his prediction all charges would be dropped, PIPS would be back at Christmas last year, and a whole lot more statements and predictions that didn't come true.

It's still not been proven their guilty to me.
Having said that, look at the facts. BNM have conducted a fifteen month investigation into PIPS. In their opinion, there was a case to answer and passed their deliberations on to the prosecution team. Consequently, serious charges of money laundering have been brought against Bryan and Sharon Marsden, The trial is set for September 2007. Hardly encouraging news for the membership, who would have preferred to have heard there was no case to answer.
Let us not forget the problems prior to pips being shut down in August 2005 either.
Eight months of virtually no withdrawals, no merchant payments, 5 year plan cancelled, Debit cards not funded and the 3% programme not launched. The VAT systems platform never materialised either. Then there’s the outstanding Cease and desist orders and unpaid fines, that remain unresolved to this day.
Needless to say, everybody and their brother have a theory as to what went wrong. Theft by members of staff, intervention by the government, conspiracy, no investments, the list is endless. Whatever reason you believe, only the trial will determine the truth of the situation.
So yes, “innocent until proven guilty” still applies, but don’t get your hopes up for a return of pips. For me personally, the shining light back in July 2005 has gone out.
