This is an objective article, not a subjective one.

There are those who really need children? They want children and they are able to take care of them. May the desires of their hearts be granted.

A newlywed couple would normally desire children. A couple with only one or two kids may desire one more. This is a logical reason.

There are those who need children for logical reasons. There are those who need children for strange reasons. This piece is about those who need children for strange reasons.

Who are those having children for irrational reasons? Let me give you a few examples out of numerous.

A case study: Someone has had 7 or 8 boys, but they keep on having children by the same woman or second woman because they need a girl. Does he want to take that girl to his grave? This is also applicable to someone who has 7 or 8 girls, and is desperate for a male child? Who tells him that female children aren’t even better than male children?

Example 1:
One man has 5 kids through the first wife, who’s now estranged and separated from him. He married a second wife and has two kids from her. One kid is dead, one is alive. The second wife is now dead, and the man, who’s currently old, has started cohabiting with another woman (who happens to have kids through previous relationships). They now plan to have another child because they think their affair means nothing if it produces no children. And this is a man that can barely feed himself, not to mention paying his young children school fees. His older children are living on their own, but they’re not buoyant enough to assist their dad.

Example 2:
One landlady has 3 kids, and the last born is 13 year old. But because a newlywed couple packed into one of their rented apartments, and the new wife got pregnant, the landlady became jealous and got pregnant for her husband again (at an advanced age). She puts her life at risk because of inordinate jealousy.

Example 3:
One woman has 2 kids through a previous disastrous marriage. Her former husband has rejected those two kids, though they’re his. The woman later married a polygamist who already has numerous children from two women. She became the 3rd wife (and she’s a Pentecostal Christian). The new husband built a house for each of his wife, and the 3rd wife has another 2 kids for him: a boy and a girl. The 3rd wife is doing all in her power to prevent their husband from marrying the 4th wife. The husband has built another house and the 4th wife is already there, expecting a baby. Because of this the 3rd wife became jealous and got pregnant for their husband again, knowing full well that this man believes more in building houses than in paying his children’s school fees. Is this new baby needed?

Example 4:
2 female neighbors who’re extremely jealous of each other are competing with giving births. They both get 5 kids, and when one gives birth to a new baby, the other one would give birth within the next 9 months. The competition is ongoing. These women don’t have rich husbands, and they keep on blaming the federal governments for their financial woes.

Example 5:
Another woman who’s already had 6 children they’re struggling to feed, recently got pregnant again because she sensed that her husband is sleeping around. She wants to use the pregnancy and a new baby to “tie” her husband down and attract his attention. This is what some women are doing. Does this strategy work?

These are couple and cohabiters who can’t feed themselves, and they keep on giving birth to children after children after children.

They think God that created man has created what the mouth would eat. Is a fulfilling life only about eating? At the time of writing this article, close to 800 million people are seriously hungry worldwide, and about 30,000 people died of hunger on November 5, 2016 alone. Why didn’t food fly to their mouths miraculously? Superstitions have really put us in bondage.

Superstitions are one of the factors contributing to problems in Nigeria. We read about great people in the past; but we read about them because of what they achieved, not because of the children they had. 2 hundred years to this time, it won’t matter again whether you had children or not.

In some European countries, the governments take care of housing, health insurance, education and more. Yet their citizens don’t give birth anyhow. In Nigeria, you take care of all responsibilities yourself, doing so with your blood and sweat. Yet, you bear children indiscriminately.

At the end, people would blame the government for the results of their own actions. Nigerians do stupid things and blame others for it.

Some older people have children who can’t take care of them because those children aren’t financially OK.

Why do people have children they don’t need? The children they can’t take care of, with the hope of a brighter future. Years ago, people had this hope and what was the result? Population explosions with increasing poverty and social atrocities. Clearly, illusions aren’t a good thing.
