Thread: Can anyone please explain what a Core2 Duo is?

Is this 1 Chip with 2 CPU's or is this 1 CPU with 2 "sub-cpu's"?

If you run Windows Xp (or linux , mac) how many "cpu's" are you seeing?
2 or 4 (hyperthreading)?

Is it in theory possible to run 2=>4 instances of the sieve at the same time?

Does this provide overhead?

Core Duo, like Athlon X2 is one chip with two CPU cores or two CPUs in one. You will see two CPUs on your machine.

But only one will run at a time unless you are doing much multitasking.
I think it just make the processing calculation of the processor more efficient.
Its like having 2 brains which can think together. :)

core duo make ur operating system more efficient because it can provide maximum usage of the cpu. the simple explanation is that you have 2 cpu in one chip. both work individually and great for multitasking like vip404 said. currently the new processor come with quad core. it is more powerfull and the best processor to do multi tasking...
