Default As It Stands...without Political Intervention...

Parliament extended their session for one month. THEY STILL WILL BE ON HOLIDAY FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST...

The Constutional Review committee was given two months (till September) to finalize the 50 draft laws that originally were to be introduced on 15 May.

This means that the committee (if remains true to it's patterns) will not bring any of the benchmark bills to the floor before September - even if they finish in less than two months then the Parliament will be on holiday for all of August...

Thus, the members of parliament will pass a lot of bills to undo revolutionary committee laws from the 1980's, to protect the ozone and maybe a new irrigation act.

BUT, (this is critical for us) what they will not be able to do is vote on the oil law, Sunni Civil Rights, the extending the powers of the President, or 140/142 - as the committee that must approve them will not bring them to the floor until September (as it currently reads without a further extension of Parliament's session - then late August for a vote if the shorten their vacation).

The smoke and mirrors seem to be that the Parliament seems that it is actually doing something by cancelling one month of their two month vacation to please America but, in fact, this is the smoke and mirrors as the vital legislation (that needs to be done - as soon as possible) will not even be presented till September - so this extra month is really meanless to the real issues that need addressing - because it will not be.

I for one have to believe that this is/will be tied into a big bang on republican front. I think statigic announcement of success from these laws will come just in time for President Bush to be able to ride the wave into the presidental election. Doing it to soon the impact will lose its luster. Doing it at a percise time will look monumental and the immediate good brought from it will shine at the right time. I personally believe the execution of Saddam was curved the same way for different reasons. JMHO

Cash either or no one can deny the greatness of this investment. wealthy today, next month, or next year it's coming!

I followed that same logic for the midterms. I agree it would help, however, the Iraqis don't seem to care. Look at what happened to Bush's majorities in both houses after the midterms. If Bush had the ability to control the GOI he would have done it during the midterms. I highly doubt speaker Harry Reid and speaker Nancy Pelosi were part of Karl Rove and GW's overall strategery.
    Please, somebody shoot the messenger!

I think they all need some dinars. Then the optimism would abound, and viewpoints about the war effort would be positive, and everyone would be a winner.
Oh, wait a minute. We're talking about the Democrats, are'nt we?
    Sorry. Never mind.

I can agree with you on these points. Funny to me is that if it was a dem in office it would be the same argument, no wait the dem president would've ran and hid after 9/11. I guess we are lucky to be having this discussion
at all. But on the other hand it is hard to wait.

I was wondering whether we will see an entourage from the US during this last week before the said deadline. Will we see some of the same people like Cheanny & Rice make a trip to Iraq this week.
