Default 'Don't pump gas on May 15th"

Neno, sorry for posting in this thread! but this is where we mostly come to read. Hope all is well with everyone. Hoping for the RV party SOOOOON!

Someone sent me this e-mail today. I am passing it along to all of you.

    NO GAS...On May 15th 2007
Body: Don't pump gas on may 15th
Body: ...in April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and let's try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for
    at least one day.

If you agree (which I can't see why you wouldn't) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"

I'm sorry, but this doesn't make any sense. This is just another opportunity for people to spam ISPs. The email assumes that every person on the internet will have an empty gas tank on 15 May, and encourages everyone to "not pump gas". Well, for those of you on the internet reading this right now, you better find those select few Americans without internet service, and make plans to motorpool on the 15th. If everyone doesn't pump gas on the 15th, it only means that more people will have to pump on the 16th. Thus, you are only slightly denting profit margins for one day (15th), and will spike the market the next when you go to fill up that empty car of yours. Do you really think the market will have time to react overnight and drop gas prices, I think not. Here is some facts:

Let's start with the price impact of that alleged “gas out.” In the first week of April 1997, the average price of a gallon of gasoline nationwide was $1.248. By the end of the month, the weekly average was $1.24. If there was a one-day drop of 30 cents a gallon, it doesn’t show up in the statistics compiled by the Department of Energy U.S. All Grades All Formulations Retail Gasoline Prices (Cents per Gallon).

VIRUS WARNING: By the way, this same email has been spammed acrossed networks several times over the last couple years, and often came with a nice little virus to brighten up everyone's day.

The only solution to the ever increasing gas prices, is to reduce demand on a permanent basis. That means we will have to carpool more, drive hybrid vehicles, stop wars around the world, and hope that Mother Nature calms down a little with the devastating hurricanes. Sorry there is no short term fix for gas prices. I don't think we will ever see the price drop below an average of $2.50 p/gallon for the foreseable future.

Please click the following link. It sounds good, but it's just not a sound theory. This urban myth has been circulated quite a few times. Please do a search on the internet for GAS Boycott.
