Northern Iraqi fields’ output exceeds 700,000 barrels daily

A new agreement allowing Iraqi Kurds to export oil produced from fields in their areas has boosted output from northern Iraq to 710,000 barrels per day, Iraq’s Northern Oil Company said.

The company said the rise in output and ultimately in exports, currently estimated at 580,000 barrels of oil day via the twin pipeline crossing Turkey to the Mediterranean, was due to a recent accord between the central government and the regional Kurdish authorities.

Under the agreement, Iraq accepted to export oil produced from fields in the Kurdish autonomous north via national pipelines.

A statement by the company said the national pipelines handled 20,000 barrels a day from the Kurdish field of Tawki.

The Kurds say they can produce up to 100,000 barrels a day from the oil fields they have developed on their own within their semi-independent enclave comprising the provinces of Arbil, Sulaimaniya and Dahouk.

The statement said the volume of oil flowing from Kurdish fields was to increase substantially once the producing wells were linked to the national pipeline network.

It said it expected Iraqi oil exports from the North Oil Company alone to reach 900,000 barrels a day by the end of the year.
