TOKYO (Thomson Financial) - Foreign investors were net buyers of Japanese stocks for the first time in two weeks last week, but this was only the second week of net purchases in the past 10 weeks due to the underlying weak appetite for risky investments reflecting uncertainties about about the global economy, preliminary figures from the Ministry of Finance showed on Thursday.

Overseas investors bought a net 131.0 billion yen ($1.2 billion) worth of Japanese shares in the week to August 30. The week before, they were net sellers of a revised 215.1 billion yen worth of shares.

Foreign investors were net buyers of medium- to long-term Japanese bonds for the fifth straight week, purchasing 570.4 trillion yen worth of bonds. The week before, they bought a net 557.9 billion yen of bonds.
