BoN, BN and BNM all mean Bank Negara Malaysia.

It is the national bank of Malaysia. They are investigating "pips and its related companies".

"Negara" seems to be a usual name for national banks in south east asia.
At least they have a Bank Negara in Indonesia and Singapore too.

    Actually Nanni,

You got it wrong, BoN or Bank of Negara Malaysia is the Central Bank of Malaysia...
It is definitely not Pips bank, but the Malaysian Government watchdog authority that controls all banking matters in Malaysia as well as the control of the Mlaysian currency, the Ringitt etc...

When any irregular activities or fraud happens in the banking industry, it will step in to investigate and report...

Its equivalent in the US is the Federal Reserve Bank and in the Uk, the Bank of England...

Please understand it does not have commercial banking facilities at all, but it has jurisdiction to freeze anyone's accounts in any bank in Malaysia, if it deems it necessary to investigate it for fraud!

    I hope this helps!

In Singapore, its the MAS -> Monetery Authority of Singapore. They are the ones with the "big stick" on anyone misbehaving in the financial arena..

    Cheers

I just checked the "BNM" site and there is a new post as of February 22,2006 which simply states that "PureInvestor and Pips Inc., and all related Companies are still under investigation". So as you see there is really nothing for Bryan to report to us at this time.

Just wanna clarify... that BNI stands for Bank Negara Indonesia and also known as BNI or BNI'46, it is not the Bank Central of Indonesia. It is a state owned bank that its operation as common practice bank.

The Bank Central of Indonesia is BANK INDONESIA and the common abbreviation use is BI.

Thanks, then I learned something new today.

Seems strange to me that other banks use "negara" in their name too when they're not the national authority.... as negara means "national" and "state" (according to some online dictionary)

I guess I just exposed my ignorance when assuming that. lol
