I understand the frustration with Slow Grow as we've seen the past 7 months. But mean spirited bashing and stereotyping of the entire Iraqi population is not at all a positive endeavor. An analogy would be a woman that had been badly abused and beaten for 35 years. You really expect her to recover in just a few short years? Especially since that "abuse" isn't totally over, just changed in form. Give the good guys and heros of Iraq time to emerge. It is happening, but the monsters still have far too much firepower and evil in their hearts. On the ISX note, I'm still surprised by the lack of attention to the ISX potentially opening on 8/2/07 by fellow IQD investors. I thought Rolclub would be the leading edge of speculation and discussion of what this means for our investments. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Until then, Slow Grow continues on as we are at 1249 as of tonight. Best of luck to all involved.

But even with that bad track record, I'm surprised there isn't more buzz around the Dinar World concerning 8/2/07. It has to be THE biggest event concerning future IQD value. It seems to me a high (1:1 or such) Re-val MUST occur before the ISX opens if it will at all. Let's say the exchange rate is 1244 at ISX open. And let's say for several months we see a good solid rise of the overall ISX index. A 1:1 Re-val at that point would cause a massive run and "sell-off" of almost all ISX stocks. It could literally crash the ISX!!! Logically it would seem that if the Re-val doesn't occur before foreign ISX investment the only way to do it afterwards would be with a Zero Lop.
8/2/07 could be THE biggest event we've seen thus far!!! All comments welcome!!!
    Munny,

As you can see, I do not post much. Why isn't this getting more attention?

    My opinions...

First, many of the stallwarts of this forum have left, or moved to the sidelines.

Second, perhaps there is a general confusion on what to make of how the GOI and CBI look at the opening of ISX. WILL it eventually wind up crashing? There are credible arguments on both sides for rv and against rv before the ISX opens. I'd like to believe those who think an rv is necessary before 8/2, but I am not sure I am not looking through dinar colored glasses.
It sure seems logical that if 49% of any stock can be bought up so cheaply, savy investors and traders could manipulate the market, and cause major harm to many of the companies.

Having said that, watching the swirling vortex that is the GOI, with all the non action on crucial laws, and the mess that Iraq is politically and security wise, it seems like the CBI has a very convoluted set of circumstances affecting what it is doing and wants to do.

A lop some time after 8/2 if there is no rv? I am no expert, but would a lop do them any good whatsoever? It would not give them the buying power for imports that they need.

It sure is very difficult to figure out what their intentions are, yet, it seems that they would do what is very best for Iraq's future success, and would be following the lead and direction of the IMF and World Bank.

I'd like to think that an rv is needed before 8/2, but time is short. If it does not happen, I am not sure what to make of the short term future of the dinar.

I see you saying 1:1.. that sure doesn't jive with your model...

I would not be surprised at all that come August 2 the ISX opening will be ''DELAYED'' once more....this is a government that for one reason or another just can't seem to get it right.....even an RV of lets say one cent would help their people immensely while they haggle over these laws that they can't get enuff people to vote on....IMHO...Pat

Given their track record to date, no doubt that it is possible to be delayed. If they don't feel the pressure from our Congress, that some sort of change in our deployment is imminent, then there is a possibility that they will never get things done.

The report coming out states that they have not met a single benchmark. They have a LOT to do, and not much time. They have squandered much of the last year. Can they reverse their modus operandi? Time surely is in short supply.

WOW!! Thanks for finally putting that into plain English for us. Great Post!!!

I for one, am a bit nervous about the ISX opening. If it does actually occur on 8/2 without an RV, I think that the dinar will lose a lot of focus for numerous people. Although I don't wish for another delay, I would definately take a tardy ISX opening,to it happening without our bold adjustment!

I agree, we don't need any other delays..but if a delay means getting it right, and includes an rv, I can handle that.

I just think.. more delays= less troops, and sooner. Does that matter to them? We'll see

I tend to agree with you there bluezzguy....this GOI has squandered away for more then a year....when they do get enuff people in the parliament to show up for a quorum to vote on important issues ,they haggle...then some get p'd off and don't show up for weeks..then when they do again show up...guess what...they start haggling all over again...its a never ending process with this GOI...and still their people suffer.....i don't think they have met one bench mark yet...and they are running out of time...as long as WE{U.S.}keep spending money and our troops the longer they will take......they need to get off their you know whats and get these laws done......IMHO...Pat

If outside players are allowed to pour billions of dollars into the ISX at these cheap prices there is no way that the average to above average Iraqi can compete. It's our total dollars and purchasing power vs. their total dinar and it's purchasing power. Not even close. Even if there is a restriction on the amount that foreigners can buy it will still drive up stock prices beyond what the Iraqis can afford, IMHO. The benefit of economic growth through the ISX will not be realized by those that need it the most. 50% of the advantages that comes about by having a stock exchange in one's own country would be nil and void. The companies issuing the stock would benefit but not the citizens of Iraq. There would be increased employment but that is only part of an economic picture. Even here in the states with our employment up to 96% we as individuals invest heavily in our stock market. It's a huge part of an overwhelming number of our retirements. I know young folks that are investing to earn enough for a down payment on their first home. It goes on and on. I don't think these benefits could come about for the Iraqis with the dinar at current levels.
    Ret,

Love what you wrote, but not sure if this is entirely true. For instance( and i wish i knew how to highlight things), "The companies issuing the stock would benefit but not the citizens of iraq". You imply because this is so, that it will not happen. From what i have seen and read, do the GOI or people with money over there really give a carp about the ordinary citizen? I am coming to believe that all they care about is themselves and their own and lining their pockets, so if a company issuing a stock only makes money in the beginning for themselves, what do they care? Any other opinions?!?!?!?
