No worries mate, if cendol not for you! I also think it looks err.... nasty because the picture does not do the food justice! Anyone who has tasted it will quickly change their mind.
But anyways, we have more food to offer! Penang is a food haven. But if you desire a touch of home, there's always MCD (24/7), Subs and coming soon TGIF! So don't fret!
In wikipedia, cendol is decribed as wormlike!!!! :toofunny: I tried to be kind!
theBat$ - Mari, mari. Mari sini! (Come, come. Come here!)
A Cendol will be waiting for you upon arrival!!!

One thing I did learn was not to judge the food by what it looked like or how it is presented. The best noodles I have EVER tasted were from a hawker stall quite near Petaling Street in KL, chucked onto a plastic dish and eaten at the side of the road.
I think you are referring to Char Koay Teow. Its flat rice noodles, fried over very high heat with light and dark soy sauce, chilli, prawns, cockles, egg, bean sprouts and chives. Its a popular dish among locals. Penang Char Koay Teow is renown. (check wikipedia) So is Char Koay Teow from Ipoh. Of course there's Char Koay Teow stalls all over Malaysia but these two states seem to get the most fame.
Did you know the way the Chinese, the Malays and the Indian/Indian Muslim fry it is different!!! The may look the simillar but they taste different.
The Chinese hawker will sometimes slices of Chinese sausage and fish cake into it. It is fried in pork fat, with crisp croutons of pork lard, which give it its characteristic taste. They're deeelicious.

This is what Nej probably had down in Petaling Street! Look at those prawns!!! If you think Char Koay Teow is a calorie buster, it is!!!! But its soooo good!
The Malay Hawker of course would exclude anything pork! But the composition of it is still about the same. They tend to call their version KeowTeow Kerang or Cockle Koay Teow.
The Indian or Indian muslim version is more eleborate, it has two types of fritters, crunchy prawn fritter and a soft one, bean curd, dried squid, boiled potatoes and the usual bean sprout. The Koay Teow is fried then the ingredients are added together with a dash of sweet gravy and chilli mix in. Throw in a handful of crush roasted peanuts served with spring onions and wedge of lime as garnishing.
