Beware of SEC "Legitimate" Registered Companies!

"Based on the best-selling book of the same name by Fortune reporters Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind, a multidimensional study of one of the biggest business scandals in American history. The chronicle takes a look at one of the greatest corporate disasters in history, in which top executives from the 7th largest company in this country walked away with over one billion dollars, leaving investors and employees with nothing. The film features insider accounts and rare corporate audio and video tapes that reveal colossal personal excesses of the Enron hierarchy and the utter moral vacuum that posed as corporate philosophy. The human drama that unfolds within Enron's walls resembles a Greek tragedy and produces a domino effect that could shape the face of our economy and ethical code for years to come."
Doesnt it all come down to who is running the show? If the CEO is honest with much integrity then there would be no Enron stealing grandmothers money!

Funny and Sad at the same time,
Just look at what is going on in our US gov. at the moment, and if that doesn't tell you where the majority of thieves are, nothing will. Tom DeLay steps down, wow, like that is a surprise, he will not be very effective from his jail cell, so of course he has to step down.. More heads to roll, so the point is, there are crooks everywhere, so beware, you never know when a crook is next to you. (g)
Good luck to all, Mike

Until the U.S. people snap out of their lethargy and force their elected officials to implement term limits and a lot of legal reform, things will only get worse. That being said, however, it is still one of the better countries in this world in which to live. People need to do like Richard Pryor in "Brewster's Millions" and vote None of the Above.

Similar in Australia
We have had similar things in Australia - I think the co. name was Quintex and the CEO was Christopher Ska????. He had a court return his passport (after having to relinguish it while under investigation) on appeal and then skipped to Spain and spent his last years living in luxury (while being extremely ill (at least when the cameras were around)).
Then the govt. spent millions trying to get him (and his money) back - total failure. Then his dearly beloved wants to return to this country and NOT face the consequences of being a part of his fraud (at least one of the recipients of the booty).
And we also have a few others (HIH) that are now in jail or will be soon.
So just because the "authorities" register a co. doesn't mean it is safe to invest.
I would rather have an unregisted company (like PIPS) with an honest CEO than an officially registered company and a CEO that is totally lacking in moral fibre.
