Thread: Writing problems - year 1

Basically this year has been abit of a nightmare with having 4 different teachers .
Reception she was where they expected her to be , but year 1 she’s below .
We had problems with maths which I’ve spent a lot of time at home helping her and now she back to where she should be . She does well in phonics and reading .
Teacher has just pulled me in to say her hand writing past couple of weeks has gone really bad and need to work on it at home . Also said she has trouble writing sentences , she’s good at telling you verbally but writing it isn’t good.
She showed me her work and it was messy. But at home she does neat writing . Think she finds it boring . Teacher said she figgets a lot, she moved her to a table so she was sat alone and asked her to rewrite her sentence but she still didn’t do it well.
She’s now not going to meet expected at the end of the year .

Any advise appreciated .

I would not be concerned until the middle to upper elementary (8 or 9). My children did not receive the same handwriting instruction in school as we did just a few decades ago. There were no worksheets or other forms of practice. The bare minimum was all they were taught. I concur with the educators who advise not to worry about it. We spent most of our free time practising handwriting on essays with essay writing service reddit outside of school during the summer. It was up to them whether they studied cursive, but I made printing a requirement. Therefore, I recommend setting an example by enhancing your handwriting.
