There are two primary sectors that you can choose to service on once you’ve started your own cleaning business. They are – the commercial and the consumer arena.

Commercial cleaning services would include carpet cleaner, window cleaners and janitorial services that would include all aspect of cleaning service inside the office. An advantage of being in the commercial cleaning industry is that if the customer likes you, you’d get very regular gigs with them. You also get higher pays compared to what is charged in the consumer cleaning service market. But you will definitely need more manpower here because you will have to be fast and efficient in your cleaning service. Most offices will not close up for a day just to have cleaners come in, except on extraordinary circumstances. Once you get a steady clientele, more business will also be calling on your and unavoidably your weekends will be filled with schedules. You will need to be effective in organizing cleaning programs and managing you time.

The commercial cleaning service arena also has a much bigger responsibility compared to consumer area. You will need insurance coverage and bond system. It will be difficult to keep track of all your cleaners at once while they are milling about the office picking up stray document or getting into cleaning accidents. You need to protect three groups here – your company, your employees and your clients.

In terms of expenses and profits, the commercial industry also has higher requirements on start up capitals and working capital. Nonetheless, you will be making huge profits as long as you manage your business proficiently.

The consumer cleaning service arena is a bit less intense than commercial services. The tasks may also include specialized services such as carpet cleaning or window cleaning but this is on a smaller, less bone breaking scale and on a less frequent basis. If you are just starting up, the consumer cleaning service will set you off into the cleaning industry on a more subtle manner.

You can even start this business on your own and you won’t probably need an office just yet. You will need capital mostly for the equipment that will need to make cleaning houses easier and faster. When you’ve become confident enough to launch your consumer cleaning service into a larger clientele, then that is the only time that you will need to impart a bigger capital.

When that time comes, you will need to hire more people. This could be on a part-time or full-time basis depending on the demand and cleaning schedules. You will also need to buy more or upgrade your current equipments. By this time, you will also need to have a van or any convenient transport for your team of cleaners and the equipment that they will use.

The consumer cleaning business is a pretty practical choice if you think profit-wise because of the little capital you need to have. There are also no insurances or bonds to worry about, but you will still need to give your clients guarantees on anything that might be lost or damage in the process of cleaning.
