My dad and I have the same 2017 Fusion Sport configuration, and his premium is $100 less than mine for 6 months. I asked the insurance provider why there was a discrepancy and they couldn't give me a straight answer knowing the parameters for both of us. I also asked why the Fusion Sport insurance was almost 2 times as high as my other vehicles, namely the 2018 Explorer and they said something about their formula.

I did some quoting and the insurance on the Fusion Sport is almost as insanely high as the Mustang GT (which has risen dramatically since S197). But a 2020 Explorer ST full coverage is the same premium as my bare bones 2018 Explorer XLT full coverage. So I could insure a more expensive Explorer ST for a lot less than a less expensive Fusion Sport, with both vehicles having comparable performance characteristics.
