Wouldn't make a good teacher lol. Quite hard to explain, been looking for sites that might explain it better. Maybe the best thing I can suggest is you go to www.betfair.com. Wait for an inplay game, and if you can watch it on tv, watch the way the odds fluctuate depending on who's winning/losing. You can open an account without funding I believe, you can then put in amounts of money on the back and lay side and it will show you what you'd win/lose.

Here's a screen shot of my Betfair account. I backed Johnson and then layed him in such a way that whoever now goes on to win the World Golf Matchplay tournamount I win. Hopefully he will win of course, unlikely but who knows now Woods and Mickelson are out?

I chose him because once he beat Jim Furyk, he had a fairly easy ride through to the quarter finals today and so his odds would only go down on the lay side. Not so sure he'll beat Goosen who's now the favourite. But matchplay is a strange old game, look at Woods? He was playing the best golf of his life and lost yesterday!

I think i've got it.

I layed a bet on the Blackburn arsenal game. Under 2.5 goals. As soon as Blackburn scored I backed the bet for higher odds. The amount I put on both bets insured I would either win 16 pound if it finsihed under 2.5 goals and 40 pounds if it finished over 2.5 goals.

Not bad for 90 mins work.

Going to place a bet on man utd v West ham game on wednesday. Should be a few goals.

I won a few quid on the Birmingham v Sunderland game, layed the draw and then backed it once Heskey scored for Birmingham.

Also won on France v Italy in 6 nations match, backed Italy with a 28.5 point lead, then layed them at half time, another winner!!!!

Just about to watch Scotland v England, have backed England with a -12.5 start. In fact this was great cos I backed at 2.0 and before kick off the lay had dropped to 1.92 so I could have made money before the kick off!!

Anyway, once England take the lead and the odds drop on the lay side I'll trade off for a profit, well that's the theory!

Lay means buy and back means sell ?

I understand how to do with the over/under bets, but to be honest I`m
not sure about a normal 3-way footy bet, how do I cover my a.. with only 2 bets.
Or maybe I just haven`t thought about it hard enough, I think that might be the problem.

To lay a bet means you're betting against it, ie Arsenal are playing Liverpool. If you lay the draw, you're saying it WON'T be a draw, (either side will win). If you back it, means you're saying it WILL be a draw.
