Daily Market Commentary for March 25, 2008 from Millennium-Traders.Com

A mixed market today for the DOW compared to the NYSE, NASDAQ and S&P 500. The DOW had a tough time keeping its head above water today, although at the closing bell, it made up a great deal of losses experienced during the early morning session but, still closed red for the day. The remaining major indices moved higher during the session to post a green session, for the day. Consumer Confidence reported today came in strikingly lower compared to February with optimism in all aspects all but non-existent from the consumers state of mind. The economy and threats of recession remain high pressure subjects not only in Wall Street but also, Main Street. The dollar was lower again today and Crude Oil ended the day over $101 a barrel.

At the closing bell on the Stock Exchange, here is how the major indices ended the session on the U.S. Markets:

DOW (Dow Jones Industrial Average) loss of 16.04 points on the day to end the session at 12,532.60

NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) gain of 76.62 points to end the session at 8,936.23

NASDAQ gain of 14.30 points for a close at 2,341.05

S&P 500 gain of 3.11 points for a close at 1,352.99

FTSE All-World ex-U.S. gain of 5.45 points to close at 239.71

FTSE RAFI 1000 gain of 10.95 points to close at 5,509.97

BEL 20 gain of 81.05 points for a close at 3,704.07

CAC 40 gain of 158.28 points for a close at 4,692.00

FTSE100 gain of 193.9 points for a close at 5,689.10

NIKKEI 225 triple digit gain of 265.1 points to end the session at 12,745.20

On the NYSE today, advancers came in at 2,063, decliners totaled 1,123; unchanged came in at 75; new highs came in at 37 and new lows came in at 24. Momentum NYSE stocks traded by active Day Traders today: MGIC Investment Corporation (MTG) shed 1.05 points with a high on the day of $12.77, a low of $11.50 for a closing price at $12.25; CME Group, Incorporated (CME) gained 15.21 points with a high on the day of $507.18, a low of $482.69 for a closing price at $503.21; Transocean, Incorporated (RIG) gained 0.80 points with a high on the day of $134.60, a low of $131.00 for a closing price at $131.86; LDK Solar Corporation Limited (LDK) gained 1.77 points with a high on the day of $26.40, a low of $24.23 for a closing price at $25.84; Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation (PVH) gained 1.16 points with a high on the day of $40.10, a low of $35.00 for a closing price at $38.51; Capital Trust, Incorporated (CT) shed 0.65 points with a high on the day of $29.70, a low of $28.50 for a closing price at $29.55; Merrill Lynch & Company, Incorporated (MER) shed 0.53 points with a high on the day of $48.65, a low of $46.55 for a closing price at $47.85; Valero Energy Corporation (VLO) shed 1.98 points with a high on the day of $50.95, a low of $47.63 for a closing price at $48.10; ITT Educational Services Incorporated (ESI) shed 3.51 points with a high on the day of $51.21, a low of $47.93 for a closing price at $47.93; Uniao de Bancos Brasileiros S.A. On the NASDAQ today, advanced totaled 1,845; decliners totaled 1,113; unchanged came in at 113; new highs came in at 18 and new lows came in at 61. Momentum NASDAQ stocks traded by active Day Traders today: Sears Holdings Corporation (SHLD) shed 3.77 points with a high on the day of $111.48 a low of $106.00 for a closing price at $107.82; Penn National Gaming Incorporated (PENN) gained 2.74 points with a high on the day of $47.13 a low of $42.06 for a closing price at $44.94; InterDigital, Incorporated (IDCC) shed 1.92 points with a high on the day of $23.18 a low of $19.75 for a closing price at $20.39; inVentiv Health, Incorporated (VTIV) shed 2.09 points with a high on the day of $29.91 a low of $26.36 for a closing price at $27.78; Exlservice Holdings, Incorporated (EXLS) shed 0.13 points with a high on the day of $25.67 a low of $22.76 for a closing price at $23.12; First Solar, Incorporated (FSLR) gained 10.23 points with a high on the day of $223.99 a low of $207.41 for a closing price at $219.73; Intuitive Surgical, Incorporated (ISRG) shed 1.31 points with a high on the day of $330.88 a low of $321.79 for a closing price at $325.93; Baidu.com, Incorporated (BIDU) shed 4.39 points with a high on the day of $245.19 a low of $228.00 for a closing price at $235.61; Google Incorporated (GOOG) shed 9.78 points with a high on the day of $457.47, a low of $446.00 for a closing price at $450.78.

U.S. Conference Board March Consumer Confidence came in at 64.5 versus February reading at 76.4; Conference Board March Present Situation Index came in at 89.2 versus February reading at 104.0; Conference Board March Expectations Index came in at 47.9 versus February reading at 58.0.

Commodities Markets
The trend was mostly higher across the board today for the Energy Sector: Light crude moved higher today by $0.36 to close at $101.22 a barrel; Heating Oil moved lower today by $0.03 to close at $2.84 a gallon; Natural Gas moved higher today by $0.09 to close at $9.51 per million BTU and Unleaded Gas moved higher today by $0.04 to close at $2.68 a gallon.

Metals Markets ended the session higher across the board today: Gold moved nicely higher today by $16.30 to close at $935.00 a Troy ounce; Silver moved higher today by $0.69 to close at $17.80 per Troy ounce; Platinum moved sharply higher today by $96.70 to close at $1,985.90 per Troy ounce and Copper moved higher today by $0.06 to close a $3.68 per pound.

On the Livestock and Meat Markets, the trend was mixed across the board today: Lean Hogs ended the day higher by $1.10 to close at $72.60; Pork Bellies ended the day lower by $0.30 to close at $76.40; Live Cattle ended the day with no change at $90.85 and Feeder Cattle ended the day lower by $0.25 to close at $106.13.

Other Commodities: Corn ended the day sharply higher by $20.00 at $544.75 and Soybeans ended the day sharply higher by $50.00 to end the session at $1,307.00.

Bonds were higher across the board today: 2 year bond closed higher by 2/32 at 100 13/32; 5 year bond moved higher by 2/32 to close at 100 20/32 today; 10 year bond moved higher by 1 1/32 to close at 99 28/32 and the 30 year bond moved higher by 25/32 to close at 101 4/32 on the day.

The e-mini Dow ended the session today at 12,524 with a loss of 16 points on the trading session. The total Dow Exchange Volume for the day came in at 140,633 which are comprised of Electronic, Open Auction and Cash Exchange. The end of day results for the CBOT (Chicago Board of Trade) which is comprised of the total Exchange Volume for Futures and Options (EVFO) including Electronic, Open Auction and Cash Exchange ended the day at 2,596,045; Open Interest for Futures moved lower by 46,463 points to close at 9,500,981; the Open Interest for Options moved higher by 80,608 points to close at 7,835,825 and the Cleared Only moved higher by 165 points to close at 28,112 for a total Open Interest on the day of 17,364,918 for a total Change on the day with a gain of 34,310 points.
