Self help through mediation is possible, but only if we think about the right things. What if my thoughts are on *****, sex, wine, hate, and all manor of evil, will that help me in any positive way? I don't think so. What should we meditate on is the question? How about this...brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails.

So why not think about something that never fails? I think that would be a way to improve myself.
