Hill encouraged by Al Maliki-Allawi talks

US ambassador Christopher Hill said he was encouraged by talks between Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki and head of Al Iraqiya List Iyad Allawi.

The hard bargaining between the two sides remained at a "preliminary stage," Hill said describing the coalition talks as like a "four-dimensional game of chess."

"The important thing from our point of view is that discussions are still ongoing," the US ambassador added.

"Obviously there is going to be a lot of bargaining and discussion about ministries," Hill told reporters.
