Asiacell Plans to Change the Currency Used In All Its dealings and tariff prices from US Dollar to Iraqi Dinar

As part of its ongoing commitment to contributing to the development of the Iraqi economy, and within its aim to advance the financial situation in Iraq, Asiacell - the largest private Iraqi company and the first and only m.obile telecommunications company to provide coverage for all of Iraq - announced its plans to change the currency it uses in all its dealings and tariff prices from US dollar (USD) to Iraqi dinar (IQD).

Asiacell's decision to implement this currency switch is based on the Iraqi Government's request for telecom companies to use Iraqi dinars instead of US dollars in all their transactions and dealings. The company's plan also reflects Asiacell's efforts towards developing the Iraqi telecom sector and bolstering the nation's economy, which would positively impact both the nation and its citizens.

Within this context, Mr. Faruk Mustafa Rasool, Asiacell's Chairman, said: "Asiacell is a leading national company in the Iraqi telecom sector, and is an authentic Iraqi investment that adheres to national policies aimed at serving the nation and its people. As such, we proudly bear our responsibility towards driving the country's economic development, overcoming all economic obstacles, and contributing to restoring the domestic currency. Our decision confirms our ongoing dedication to enhancing the trust our customers have placed in us in order to remain as their number one choice for telecom services in Iraq and contribute to supporting the collective developmental efforts towards building the new Iraq."

    Speaker, Issawi discuss coalition building

Iraq’s outgoing Parliament Speaker Iyad al-Samarraie has met with the deputy prime minister, Rafie al-Issawi, to discuss possible coalitions and the crisis resulting from recent statements by election winners.

The officials have discussed the recent developments on the political scene and coalition maps, according to a statement released by Samarraie’s Iraqi Accord Front (IAF) and received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The meeting has also tackled means of getting out of the “current crisis”, which resulted from statements by winning political blocs, according to the statement.

On Friday (March 26), the head of al-Iraqiya List, which won Iraq’s parliamentary elections with 91 seats, told al-Sharqiya TV that his list had assigned its candidate, Deputy Premier Rafie al-Issawi, to hold talks with the winning blocs in order to form a new government.

IAF expresses reservations about election results

The Sunni Iraqi Accord Front (IAF) has expressed its reservations about the outcome of the parliamentary elections, which has resulted in the victory of Iyad Allawi’s al-Iraqiya List.

“From the beginning, the IAF has pointed out that the electoral process was not conducted with a high level of transparency. Serious violations have marred it. Therefore, the front is challenging the results and expresses its reservations about the related results that have been announced,” the front said in a statement published on its web site.

Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) had announced the parliamentary election results on Friday (March 26) in which former prime minister Iyad Allawi’s al-Iraqiya bloc obtained 91 out of the parliament’s 325 seats, followed by incumbent Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s Dawlat al-Qanoon (State of Law) with 89 seats, the Iraqi National Alliance (INA) with 70 seats and the Kurdistan Alliance with 43 seats.

thats the million dollar question livefree...the longer it takes them to form this new government the further back they will be...the insurgents,al-queda or militant uprisings are starting to be more frequent...and with more deadly accuracy....I still believe if Al-Maliki would have played his cards right and at least tried to help their people while he was prime minister he would have won re-election....but he chose to play politics instead like most of congress does here in the good ole U.S....and it cost him...IMHO...Pat
