The easiest way to earn money is to learn one or two gathering professions (herbalism, mining and/or skinning), go out into the world and gather resources, then sell those resources at the Auction House. If you want to make money quickly, you will soon embrace the Auction House as your best friend. Other players will pay you a lot of money to gather what they need for them so they don't have to do the dirty work.

The manufacturing professions will earn you money as well, but you will need to work at them a while before you can make things other players can and will use. Enchanting is by far the most costly profession to take up, because you are constantly disenchanting all those useful items you could otherwise sell to a vendor or another player for extra cash. It will also produce the biggest payoff in the long run, though, once you learn how to create some really useful enchantments.

If you choose a manufacturing profession, you should also choose the complimentary gathering profession that will give you the reagents you will need to further it. If you choose alchemy, for example, you should choose herbalism to go with it. In this way, you can find your own reagents, and you don't have to buy them from other players at the Auction House for top dollar.

Another thing you might want to consider is, can your character use his or her own profession? This is a good way to get "free" stuff. Anyone can use alchemy, for example, and you can find the required herbs everywhere, so many people choose this profession so they can make their own healing and mana potions, among other things. But you won't find too many cloth- or leather-wearers becoming blacksmiths, because the only use for their craft is to supply other players with what they specifically need. - LJS

When i played wow i found skinning to be very profitable, best way to earn money on skinning in wow i belive is to have your main charachter as gatherer and your alt as seller, made loads of gold in wow that way.
