The problem with creating websites for other people is that nobody really knows what it is that they want! I ran a web design company for many years, and what I found again and again was that my clients had no set ideas about how they wanted their new website to look, and had spent no time at all in thinking about it, but instead wanted me to come up with the layout and the colour scheme for them. So I would have to spend hours finding out exactly what sort of website it was intended to be....merchant site, review site, blog etc etc....and then try to find out what sort of layouts and colours appealed to the person. When I'd done that I'd spend a long time trying to come up with something suitable, only for the client to then tell me they didn't like it! (And I was good at what I did, so it wasn't as if I was producing garbage). In the end I got fed up and left the business.


So my advice to anybody thinking of starting a business building websites for other people is to make sure that they come to you already with some ideas of their own. Don't begin work for them without having that starting point. And make sure also that you put a system in place that rewards you for work done so that you get paid for your time and effort even if they decide they don't like the finished product and walk away.
