Below are few tips for new website owners that may help you get better results
1)Focus on low competition keywords
2)More focus on local monthly results than global results
3)Ignore keywords having 1-2 words only e.g. money, make money
4)Export all results and sort them first by competition level and then local search
5)Focus on keywords showing less competition level
6)Don't select the keyword have millions of searches

According to what I've learned the level of competition a particular keyword has is for Google adword not SEO. Meaning a keyword may have a low competition level with regard to adword, but when it call comes down to SEO this keyword may be impossible to rank.
