    Default The Big Question?

I was recently speaking with a man in baghdad on skype and he was telling me how the situation is still very bad. I also asked him about the dinar of course and he told me that the money is not the issue. Its the violence. To help people all they had to do was increase the wages so people could eat and live. Also if you want to mention the poverty, there is always going to be poverty everywhere. So my main question is this....... How is it that everyone feels that the Iraqi dinar is sooo close to being revalued when they havnt even finished dealing with the main issue..... THE VIOLENCE? Also why is it that we are so stuck on the fact that it will reval tommarrow if they feel that the Dinar revaluation isnt important?

(Before the neg posts start coming in, this is also to just get both sides in and play the devils advocate. I'd like to think that we can play both sides here at RolClub and get all the information together so we can really SPECULATE..)

PM Maliki recently made a statement to the effect that the problem in Iraq was not security, it was political.

    Default Yeh...

it is political but Im pretty sure he means political as in the beliefs of each sect and group in Iraq believing one thing..... That is the root of the security issue. I guess you could catagorize it as political...

when somebody who is dirt poor suddenly finds affluence, or at least financial stability, along with his neighbors as well, suddenly those peeps have an EXTREMELY powerful vested interest in wanting to maintain that new position, to the point where they jump off the fence of inaction and are much more willing to take a stand for their govt and report terrorist activities in their vicinities or that they know of. Now imagine millions of peeps suddenly telling the iraqi forces exactly where the bad guys are hiding . Doesnt matter how much money the bad guys suddenly have due to rv, because they longer have anywhere to hide.... see what i mean?

The Iraqi people are worse off under the present government than under Sadam. They're sick of waiting for the govt to pull finger and start providing for them - so much so that some even have had to resort to joining the insurgents to earn a crust. An RV could certainly change this.

There was already evidence/reports of this happening, but the longer the wait the more chance of people aiding the insurgents rather than the GOI.

I saw these comments posted and seemed to fit in here:

There is a line from an old 1980's movie that should make sense here in this argument:

"RICH PEOPLE LOVE TO SHOP AT THE MALL...POOR PEOPLE WANT TO BLOW UP THE MALL"

Without any doubt...improve the economy and you will see a gaint drop off in the rates/levels of voilence (probably down to an Israeli level of acceptability) as people rush out in the buying event of the century...

reduce unemployment from the 70-80% you will greatly reduce the levels of violence...

working people have little time for these other activities...

give them good wages and see how quickly they will turn on those who continue - as you have given them a new, vested interest in society returning to normal...

KISS = It's the economy! Bill Clinton realised that and became a two term president here HOPEFULLY, the PM and the Parliament will have the same revulation...without being on the road to Damascus...

This was posted to answer the below question but seems to fit here, also:

Can you imagine how many Iraqi millionaires this would create overnight, and not just people who were previously wealthy, I'm talking the average person. Can somebody sensibly address this major concern

    Actually this is not TRUE!

The RV will start to return them to their previous status as it was first the sanctions and more importantly, us (America) that took rich and middle class people and made them poor by making their money worthless with the artifical rate of exchange that WE imposed upon them.

We took millions of middle class and rich people and made them beggers...with images that I remember as a kid from the Great Depression here in America or in Germany...where people pushed wheelbarrels of money to bakeries to buy a loaf of bread..WE DID THIS TO THEM...

SO, please don't worry about them...they were extremely use to having money before us and I'm sure that they will quickly pick it up again...like riding a bike...you never really forget...Hopefully, they will someday forgive what we have put them thru.

Instead, I'm worried about all of us...many who have never lived beyond paycheck to paycheck...

Can somebody sensibly address this major concern. Think of the panic and confusion as thousands of poor Americans strike it rich next week...IT AIN't Gonna Be PRRRREEEEETTTTTYYYYYYY!!!!
