Nuri al-Maliki talks are in Kuwait and calls on Iraq debt reduction
She said the Kuwaiti news agency that Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on Tuesday met with the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah and discussed with him bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Al-Maliki arrived in Kuwait from Cairo after a two-day official visit is his second since assuming office.
It quoted by the Kuwaiti News Agency as one of the assistants Maliki as saying that the Prime Minister will urge Kuwait to reopen its embassy in Baghdad, which had been closed since 1990 after the invasion of the former Iraqi regime, and Kuwait, for its part, expressed its willingness to reopen the embassy.
In turn, he urged MP in the Kuwaiti parliament Saleh Ashour said in a statement that the reopening of the Kuwaiti embassy and to support the government in Baghdad, saying that the stability of the situation in Iraq is casting a shadow on the situation in the region in general.
But MP Marzouk Al-Ghanim told reporters that it was premature to reopen diplomatic mission in Baghdad because of the security situation.
There is also speculation that al-Maliki urge Kuwait application commitment to reduce the debt of Iraq because of its invasion of that country in 1990, which is estimated at 16 billion dollars.
The Maliki had held talks in Cairo with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, discussing the preparations for the International Conference on Iraq held in Egypt early May, according to the official source.
Al-Maliki, head to a number of regional countries within the framework of his tour, which will pave the way for the convening of the international conference in Sharm el-Sheikh.
Invited to participate in the six neighboring states of Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Turkey.
