% increases in the value of IQD.

As I continue to read the various comments and theories concerning our IQD investments I sometimes get the feeling some do not understand the magnitude of the value increases we are talking about. Even marginal IQD increase can create amazing purchasing power for the Iraqi people. The % increase formula is (New Value – Old Value) / Old Value then multiply X 100 if anyone cares to check my math.

1430 IQD to 1 USD
1 IQD = .0007 USD Baseline starting point.

1300 IQD to 1 USD
1 IQD = .00077 USD = 10% increase in value.

1000 IQD to 1 USD
1 IQD = .001 USD = 43% increase in value.

700 IQD to 1 USD
1 IQD to .0014 USD = 100% increase in value.

500 IQD to 1 USD
1 IQD =.002 USD = 186% increase in value.

100 IQD to 1 USD
1 IQD =.01 USD = 1329% increase in value.

50 IQD to 1 USD
1 IQD =.02 USD = 2757% increase in value.

25 IQD to 1 USD
1 IQD =.04 USD = 5614% increase in value.

In early 1988, the official dinar-dollar exchange rate was still ID1 to US$3.22; however, with estimates of the nation's inflation rate ranging from 25 percent to 50 percent per year in 1985 and 1986, the dinar's real transaction value, or black market exchange rate, was far lower-- only about half the 1986 official rate.

So...

1988: 1 dinar= $1.61

First gulf war(+sanctions) 1 dinar = approx. $ .20 90% drop in value

Second gulf war(+ current occupation) 1 dinar = approx. $.0006 33,334% drop in value

Saddam valued the dinar much higher ($3.22) the entire time but the values above were internationally accepted.

So if they can have an overnight drop in value of 33,334% why not an overnight increase of 28,471%-42,757% (1 dinar = $.20-$.30)???

I keep hearing from several sources about a possible revalue of 75% of the true value of the dinar.

Given that the accepted true rate is $3.22, 75% is $2.41, or have I got this completely wrong?

It wasn't that Saddam said so, it was reconized by the bank of Baghdad, and the CBI. Saddam didn't just wake up and say Oh I like 3.22, he had economic experts aid in determining the rate.

Program Exchange Rate : 1500:1

50% of 1500 = 750
1500 - 750 = 750
750:1 is 50% increase

75% of 1500 = 1125
1500 - 1125 = 375
375:1 is 75% increase

90% of 1500 = 1350
1500-1350 = 150
150:1 is 90% increase

...and so on and so forth. This is reality.

At the current rate of 1325, we're about less than 12% increase. Exactly what's being reported in numerous news articles.

12% of 1500 = 180
1500 - 180 =1320

Like I said this is reality. Not that BS thousands of percent increases. Whatever he's smokin I want some.

I read in one of the post, don't know which one or who posted it, or where may in fact I heard it. BUT, I seen somewhere that USA will never let Iraq dollar be worth more then the USA. I think that is total BS, and I think it should be RV soon. Does anyone rembemer this post??

I see sales of IQD on Ebay for $800, $900, and even $1,000 right now. And no way on Earth am I going to pull the trigger and sell it. The real official rate right now is the one listed by the CBI of 1323 IQD per 1 USD. That will continue to increase in value per the method the CBI has stated they will use. thats right and an articled within the last three months or so indicated that the gold he had stashed in switzerland alone was enough to back the value of the dinar. although apparently since that time some of it has come up missing so not all that was there originally has been accounted for yet.

No, the true, real rate of the dinar is something other than the admitted "program rate", not "what you can get in exchange for your stash of IQD"

I don't know what factbook you're looking at but the CIA Factbook has this:

Iraq New Iraqi dinars per US dollar - 1,475 (2005), 1,890 (second half, 2003), 0.3109 (2001).

And bartleby.com's fact book has this:

Exchange rates: Iraqi dinars per US dollar - 0.3109 (2002), 0.3109 (2001), 0.3109 (2000), 0.3109 (1999), 0.3109 (1998), note: fixed official rate since 1982; market rate subject to wide fluctuations

Finally a factbook that some what agrees with your statement though the Idea of 3.22 being a "false rate" since '82 is pushing it, as is saying it traded "anywhere from 1000, 2000, 3000, or 4000 SD to 1 USD":

I admit I wasn't very clear in that response. The real ROI (Return on Investment) rate on the IQD you or I own is that what someone is willing to pay us. There are a multitude of ways to "cash out". Banks, street sales, exchange services, Ebay, etc. Whatever you can get for your cash is your investment rate of exchange. The real official IQD exchange rate is set by the CBI and currently resides at 1323 IQD to 1 USD.

I give you major kudos for actually setting out and doing some research on this. You verify what I've been saying for a few months now. Thus to continue the thought you merely need a bare amount of logic. Currently any nation with a Central Bank established will not allow the Government of that bank to control it's basic activities. That is how the Iraqi Central Bank has been set up. While there is some interaction between any Government and it's Central Bank the bank is deliberately given a large amount of autonomy in order to establish transparency and credibility. During the terror reign of Saddam, this was NOT the case. Saddam WAS the Government and he WAS the Central Bank. Thus HE set the exchange rate. But as you proved here the street rate was not even close to trading 1 SD (Saddam Dinar) to $3.22 USD. It wildly fluctuated at 1000s of SD to 1 USD. Thus if the "real" exchange rate was $3.22 there would have been HUGE smuggling rings of the SD out of Iraq with people "cashing in" millions and billions of USD in exchange for the SD. Fact is there are ZERO reports of that happening because the SD was never worth much more than it is right now. Of course before 1982 we had higher rates for the Iraqi Dinar, but that is decades ago and have very little similarity to today's complex World economy (keep in mind the World went through a major World currency re-alignment in the mid 70s).
