Due to the rapid growth of PayBox, we have decided to accelerate the development of our service. That means we will soon be making some changes to the Roadmap and Launch Schedule (found in the secure log-in area).

We are now hiring Web Developers and other people who possess great skill in the field of computers and technology. Please check the job listings to see our new Web Developer job listing.

So what does this mean for you?

It means that we now expect to have usable services sooner than we originally planned. We are working to develop the most basic levels of transaction processing over the next few weeks. This step is critical. It will be the foundation upon which we build our payment processing technology.

After that, it gets even more exciting. Within a couple of months, we expect to roll out some new services that will allow you to buy and sell using the balance in your PayBox account.

Please keep in mind, all of the mentioned features and services will be experimental at first. We’ll soon need the help of our EarlyBird users as we test these new features and services. That’s exactly why we have been allowing EarlyBird users to join.

The forum isn’t ready quite yet. We are still working on it. Once the forum is online, we will need forum mods (moderators). If you’ve ever been a forum mod, or if you would like to become one, please consider moderating in the PayBox forum. We need people:

Who are excited by the service PayBox is building
Who have read everything we’ve been posting (in the blog and on the website)
Who understand what it’s about, and can clearly explain it to users who just “don’t get it”.

You’ll also be responsible for:

Removing inappropriate comments from the forum
Banning users who are overly negative and caustic.

We’ll be accepting applications for forum moderators soon. It’s a non-paid position, but definitely has its perks (for example, you’ll be “master of your own domain” and get pre-EarlyBird access to our newest features). If you think you would enjoy becoming a forum moderator, please consider applying when the positions soon become available.

Getting the forum and good, reliable moderators in place will take a huge load off our “customer service” requests. It will free up PayBox to begin rapid development of the service. We haven’t wanted to reduce payments to EarlyBird users, so the forum/moderator approach will allow us to speed ahead with development of new features for PayBox.

If you understand what’s being said here, you may make a good forum moderator. For those who don’t get it and are still asking, “How can I withdraw?” — don’t worry — our new forum may be able to answer all of of your questions.

We’ve got a lot in the works. I’ll let you know as soon as I have more details.

Earning Money, Getting Paid, Withdrawing

Today I’ll attempt to clear the confusion surrounding the issue of “withdrawing” from PayBox. This is one of our most frequently asked questions.
A “Closed Box”

Put simply, you cannot directly withdraw from your PayBox balance–yet. PayBox is a closed system for now… it may help to think of it as a “closed box”.

While the service is in development, all account balances and transactions will stay within the closed box–among PayBox users. This will give us the opportunity to fine-tune our transaction processing system and make sure everything is working smoothly before connecting our system with the outside world.

However, please read this full post because I will explain how there may be a “loophole” in the system that allows you to get money into and out of the closed box–without anything really coming in or out.

Confused?

Don’t worry, I’ll cover that in a minute.
But, why make it a Closed Box?

Short Answer: Because we need people to use the system.

We opened the doors allowing EarlyBird users to join PayBox starting on September 1, 2010. Why did we do that? Because we want people to use the system as we develop it. That’s a somewhat nontraditional approach, but we want to make the best system based on user feedback and correct our mistakes along the way.

Does it make any sense at all that we would hand out cash and let people walk away with it the day they join? How could we achieve our goals if we were simply handing out cash? That’s ridiculous, no business could succeed in that way.

We are not in the business of simply handing out cash. We expect our users to help in return for their earnings. That’s why we explain on the website (including the “Home” page) what is expected of you… as an EarlyBird user.

So, the account balances must remain within the closed box for a while. During this time, we’ll develop and fine-tune our service while you use it and give feedback. Once we feel our service is ready to connect to the world, we’ll open the box.

You may have noticed that our system is truly a “closed box” for now. We don’t allow withdrawals or deposits. We don’t accept cash from users at this point in time. Why do you think that is?
Opening the Box

Your account balances will soon become usable (more and more so over time). We’re working on adding new features. We need your help in testing those features.

We have big plans. Eventually, we plan to offer debit cards linked to your account and the ability to buy from stores all over the Internet and, yes, an option to withdraw.

But, sticking to the very near-term future, we plan to soon roll out person-to-person transactions, followed by a marketplace where you can buy and sell using your PayBox balance.
So, what’s the Loophole?

Ah yes, the “loophole” I mentioned earlier.

As with any “closed system”, people often figure out a way to get what they want. This isn’t intended to put ideas in anyone’s head, but, PayBox doesn’t have any rules against doing this yet. (I hear that would only happen if it becomes a problem).

The idea is simple really. The key is person-to-person transactions. Once those come online, it would allow you to get money in and out of your PayBox account without it ever leaving the “closed box”.

Here’s one way it could work:

Let’s say you have $500 in your PayBox account and you want to “withdraw” $250 of it.
Once person-to-person transactions are available, you could just find someone who wants to add $250 to their PayBox balance.
That person would just pay you $250 using some outside payment method. It could be PayPal, cash, or whatever you agree on.
Then, after receiving your “outside” payment, you would transfer the $250 within PayBox from your account to the buyer’s.

Such an arrangement would allow you to “withdraw” from your PayBox account without the money ever leaving the “closed box”.

I’ve got some great news to share with you.
P2P Transactions Launching Soon…

The development team has been working around the clock for days now on the new Person-to-Person (P2P) transaction system. They’ve suprised us by announcing that it should be ready to begin EarlyBird user testing within a few days.

This is great news. It means that all PayBox users will soon be able to send and receive payments between one another. Once it’s working, it also means from that point forward, every change to your account balance will pass through the new transaction system…

Every daily bonus you earn
Every referral bonus you earn
Every time you send money
Every time you get paid

Everything will be tracked in your account history. It’s really exciting. The developers showed me a sneak-peek of the system and it looks fantastic. I can’t wait to begin using it myself.

But it get’s even better. Once the P2P transaction system has gone through some EarlyBird user testing and proven itself a bit, the developers will begin rolling out some new features that I think everyone’s going to really get excited about.
The Forum

Based on user feedback, we have pushed back the launch of the forum a little bit in order to quickly develop some usable account features. Don’t worry, the forum is still coming, but the developers have been told to focus on launching P2P transactions first.

Also, we will still need to get our forum mods selected first. We are still working on an application process for that. The forum may not launch for another 1-3 weeks, depending on how things work out with EarlyBird user testing of the P2P transaction system.

The very first version of the Person-to-Person (P2P) transactions are now live in your account. You’ll just need to log in to PayBox (if you’re not already). You can now begin testing the new features that have gone live. Go ahead and poke around, see what’s new and find out how it all works.

But, there are a few important points to keep in mind before using the new tools:

No previous transactions will be imported to the new system. Every change to your balance from here forward is being tracked. Each time you send a payment, get paid, get a bonus, etc. It will all show up in your History tab starting now. But, nothing that happened before this system went live will be put into History.
We do not have support people on staff yet who can fix your balance if there are problems. You may want to stick to smaller transactions while you’re testing. Once we’re a little more sure that things are stable, then, go ahead and use it without worry.
Contact our developers only if you find problems: [[email protected]]. They are very busy at this point, please only contact them if you are reporting a problem. (We’ll have a better system for reporting errors soon.) The email above is the general address to report errors to our development staff. Remember, send only errors to the developers. If something goes wrong with sending or receiving a payment, let them know, but they cannot change or fix your balance. Their job is simply to get the website working if there are problems.

Important: If you contact the developers, be sure to let them know the name of your web browser (i.e. Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer), and the version of your browser, which is usually found by clicking ‘Help’ then ‘About’ in the menu at the top of your web browser.

Since the launch of Person-to-Person payments, our developers have been hard at work fixing the problems reported by our EarlyBird users (you guys are great!).

Today I’m happy to announce that a lot of fixes have been rolled into the live website. For example, there’s a new validation feature to make sure people enter a valid amount on the Send Money page. Another one, there was a strange glitch where the amount you entered could end up being off by 1 cent. Plus, there have been many other fixes. Our developers are still looking over all of the error reports sent in by our users.
Old Internet Explorer doesn’t work!

One of the biggest sources of errors was from users who are using Internet Explorer (IE) versions below 8 (especially IE versions 6 and 7). Most of those errors came in the form of display errors, or form buttons not working.

(Note: The developers showed me… the site looks awful in IE 6. In fact, IE 7 does a good job of messing things up too.)

IE 6 was released by Microsoft 9 years ago. That’s ancient history in terms of technology. IE 6 is also dangerously insecure. It has been full of security holes for years and Microsoft has been releasing a steady stream of software patches for it since the day it was released.

Interesting note: IE 6 has been labeled the 8th worst tech product of all time by PC World magazine (in this article).

There are loads of problems with IE 6 and IE 7 (especially worrying are the security problems), so our developers are not programming to make our website work with it. We recommend that everyone using those browsers upgrade to a modern browser that is compliant with modern web standards and much more secure.

A few good choices are…

* A new version of IE: http://microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/

If you have been having trouble with logging in, logging out or other form-related functions, you may want to upgrade your browser. We have heard of virtually no problems of this nature from people using modern browsers.

I’ve got some great news… at least if you like earning money, spending money or having fun while you do either of the above.

The EarlyBird testing has been going well this week. Our developers will be finishing up fixes on most of the reported issues very soon. We’re excited to announce that some great new features are coming…possibly by the end of next week. I can’t promise everything will be ready by then, but that is what the developers are aiming for.

These new features will make a lot of people happy. We have users who want to use their balance (spend money). We have users who want to grow their balance (earn money). We have users who want to do both. The next set of features we release will bring a lot of new ways to both spend and earn money.

This will be my last blog post this week. Be sure to stay updated as things progress next week. I’ll keep you updated on the development of the new features and let you know as soon as they are ready to use.

The excitement is growing as we get closer to launching our latest set of new features….

* We’ve hired more new programmers/web developers.
* We’re configuring and building new web servers to handle the traffic of tens of thousands of EarlyBird users.
* The developers have been hard at work building and integrating the new features with the existing website.

What are these features?

The new features will allow you to begin using your existing PayBox balance. These features will give you the opportunity to earn more money as well as spend your PayBox balance on some things you may want to buy.

If you’ve enjoyed (but are now getting tired of) simply pushing money back and forth between accounts with the Person-to-Person transaction ability — you’re in for a real treat when these new features launch!

Our developers are under a lot of pressure to get the new features live as soon as possible.

So, when will the new features be ready for EarlyBird users to begin testing? Possibly as early as Friday, October 8th… if everything goes smoothly. However, if the developers run into unexpected issues, then the features may not launch until as late as Friday, October 15th.
What can you do to help?

While the developers are hard at work, please keep testing the Person-to-Person transactions. If you don’t have someone to send and receive money with, then please use your referral link (in the secure log-in area) and invite a friend to join.

We need your help to double the number of EarlyBird users before the features go live. Doubling our EarlyBird user base, will make the new features even more useful for everyone when they launch.

I’ve been able to take a look at what the developers have done so far and the new features look really exciting. Everything is coming along nicely and should be ready very soon. These new features will allow you to start using your PayBox account balance in some fun and profitable new ways.

At the current rate it looks like things will be ready by end-of-day on Friday. Due to the weekend, a lot of our EarlyBird users will probably just wait until Monday to start using the features. That works out well because we’ll have less users online and hopefully be able to fix any big problems as they come up.

Remember, the Friday target could still change if anything really unexpected comes up, but at this rate, Friday still looks like a realistic target.

Please don’t shoot me…okay? We are a bit behind schedule on the release of the new features. I really hate to say this, but, it looks like Monday will be the big launch of the new features. Our dedicated EarlyBird users, please accept our sincere apologies for the delay.

For those of you who are wondering, the developers ran into another snag in an area they didn’t expect. For the technically minded, it has to do with encryption and ciphers and making sure transactions in the new features are secure.

It’s all for the best, getting things set up properly before releasing it. But, I know it’s still a disappointment. On the bright side, PayBox is only 1 ½ months old. We launched September 1st and we’re already way ahead of our originally planned Roadmap & Development Schedule.

* We launched Person-to-Person transactions over 2 weeks ago, when they were originally planned to launch in early 2011.
* When the new features launch on Monday, it will put us even further ahead of schedule.

So, even if you’re disappointed with the delay. Just keep in mind, it’s just a few days delay and we’re at least 6 months ahead of our originally planned schedule. Again, please accept our apologies and I expect you’ll all see that it was worth the wait on Monday.

Today we’re starting a blog post series called “Earn Money, Get Paid”. Our goal is to keep the focus on rewarding you, our EarlyBird members, as we work on taking PayBox to the next level. It’s very important to us that the EarlyBird members earn money, earn rewards, have fun and get paid in the end.
Now you can “Flag” Auctions

We have added the new link to “flag” auctions. So, if you see an auction with content that has crossed the line (so to speak), just click the link to open the auction and click the “flag as inappropriate” link right at the top. It will take several users flagging an auction for it to be suspended.

So how does this tie in to the theme of “earn money, get paid”? It’s simple. If you help to keep the auctions clean, more people who visit our website will choose to join, more of you will want to use the auction site, we’ll have more people testing, and our joint success will be bigger and arrive faster for everyone involved.

So, what is the “Earn Money, Get Paid” blog post series all about?

Our goal is to keep the focus on rewarding you, our EarlyBird users, as we work on taking PayBox more quickly to the next level. It’s very important to us that the EarlyBird users earn money, have fun and ultimately get paid.
Exciting News for EarlyBird Users

In the coming days and weeks we aim to accelerate the growth of PayBox as we continue on our quest to become the best payment service. Our original Roadmap & Development Schedule stretched clear into 2012. This has changed. We are now working to have a full-featured payment service by some time in early- to mid-2011. By that time, we hope to have debit cards, currency conversions (in-exchange and out-exchange), etc., available to our users.

As we work on accelerating our growth, this will open up new areas where our EarlyBird users can be rewarded and even win prizes for participating. Although we originally thought we would be moving away from the use of our surveys, we have found that we are going to need more focus on our user opinion surveys. In addition to the current surveys, we have many new topics on the way that we will soon present to our EarlyBird users.

The PayBox Shop has been open for about a week now. We are curious to hear the success stories of people who have been using the Shop. So, to make this more fun, we have decided to collect PayBox Shop success stories and share them with all of our EarlyBird users.

This is only for real items, purchased and received by the buyer, not “test” auctions. We’ll soon have a form set up to begin accepting success stories. We expect the form will be up for about a week before we select our top pick.

So, if you have completed a successful transaction in the PayBox Shop, purchased the item using your PayBox balance, and received the item from the seller, please consider sharing your story. Because we accelerated our development and began releasing features much earlier than originally planned, our Roadmap & Launch Schedule became out-of-date.
Bird’s Eye View

Today we’re unveiling the new Bird’s Eye View, which replaces the outdated Roadmap. We will work to keep it updated and always easily accessible from within your PayBox.me account home page.

The Bird’s Eye View gives a high-level view of where PayBox stands, what our goals are, and what we have achieved. Please read it to learn what must happen to take PayBox to the next level and “open the box”.

Debit Card Project Update

Our developers have been hard at work on our new debit card preparation project. It is almost complete and we estimate it will be ready for our users on Tuesday, Nov 9. If all goes as planned, I will be sending out the announcement that it’s ready in my next blog post.

Activity levels have been somewhat lower over the weekend, as they normally are. We expect things to pick up this week with the introduction of our new debit card preparation project.

3 Big Announcements

We have 3 big announcements for you today. First, the PayBox Shop is closing. Second, a change in bonus amounts. Third, the debit card preparation project is now ready for EarlyBird users to give it a try. Keep reading to get more details on each of these topics.
PayBox Shop Closed

By the time you read this the PayBox Shop will probably be closed. We announced it recently in the Shop, so you may have already known this was coming. The Shop is in retirement for now, but we may bring it back someday depending on our testing needs.

The Shop was designed as a way to help us test our developing payment systems and allow the PayBox EarlyBird users to be part of that testing. Overall, it was a great success. The shop is now closed because we have successfully completed that stage of our testing. We want to thank everyone who participated with the Shop.
Bonus Changes

The sign-up bonus has been lowered from $50 to $25. But, the good news is that we have raised the referral bonus from $5 to $10 per person you refer to PayBox. That works nicely into our next announcement too…
Debit Card Project

PayBox is preparing for when we “Open the Box” and begin issuing debit cards to our users. When that happens, we want to allow our users to select from thousands of attractive debit card designs.

So, we’re opening it up to you — our EarlyBird users — to submit card designs. We’ve developed a contest and tools to allow you to easily create your own designs and vote on other users’ designs. Either way you can win cash prizes.

PayBox is giving away a $1,000 cash prize for the top voted design. We’re also giving away multiple $100 prizes just for participating in the voting. Each time you vote, you increase your chances of winning.

To see the debit card design project and begin voting and uploading your own images and designs, just log into your PayBox account. If the links aren’t there when you read this, they should show up in your account very soon.

Here’s more good news… You can create a debit card design and then share it with your friends or family so that they can vote on it (increasing your chances of winning the $1,000). If they’re not already a member of PayBox, your debit card design “share link” will track your referrals too. So, if you share your debit card design with someone and they end up joining PayBox, you get a referral bonus of $10 to your PayBox account.

This progress report is based on the most recent activity trends. Things are looking much better! If activity continues at this level, we estimate that we could reach our Stage 2 growth goals as soon as March 15.
What’s Working…

Our users have been completing the Daily Survey and other surveys — this helps us determine which projects to work on and which features to add to PayBox next.

Our users have also started voting in the new Debit Card Survey — this helps us to have the very best debit card designs, as selected by user popular vote.

We are getting a healthy amount of new users referred each day. Please keep this up! We still need many more new users to help us reach our growth goals and take PayBox to the next level.
What’s Next…

We are working on several new projects which were chosen based on survey feedback from you — our users. We are working on preparing PayBox to become a full-featured payment processor. We’re working to speed up the growth of PayBox in order to reach our Stage 2 growth goal and then “Open the Box”.

This update is to let everyone know that things are going well. We’re using the survey results to improve the service and activity levels are staying fairly high. We estimate that at the current rate, we will begin working to “Open the Box” in early April.

Yes, that is a bit later than initial estimates, but that is because EarlyBird user activity has slowed a bit since mid-November. That’s fine. Our next project is still in the works, and we expect it to give a real boost to our growth.

Our upcoming “growth project” is designed to put more power in the hands of you — our EarlyBird users. As mentioned before, it will feature direct cash payments, outside your PayBox balance. Participation in the upcoming growth project is optional, but it is a good fit for anyone who wants to begin receiving direct cash payments, is excited to share PayBox and would like to learn more about making money online.

I will keep you updated on this project as it develops over the coming weeks. In addition, I’ll continue to post updates on our overall progress toward our next goal — our Stage 2 growth goals which will allow us to being working to “Open the Box”.
