American Truck Drivers Screwed By Bush

President Bush announced that Mexican truck drivers will be
allowed on America’s highways within sixty days. Soon, he’ll
announce that Mexican drivers will “do the jobs that
American truckers won’t do.”

How many ways can an American president screw his own
citizens? On Bush’s watch, America’s poor suffer job losses
in landscaping, construction, dry wall, hotel, restaurant,
lawn mowing, retail, fast food, roofing, taxi and dozens of
other trades. On Bush’s watch, outsourcing, insourcing and
offshoring work cost American citizens 1,000,000 jobs. On
Bush’s watch, America’s manufacturing sector lost 3 million
jobs. On Bush’s watch, over 10 million illegal aliens
crossed our borders in six years. On Bush’s watch, hundreds
of thousands of killers, drug dealers, rapists and child
molesters roam free in America.

Now, President Bush drives his serrated knife into the heart
of American truckers.

Why? Soon, Mexican truck drivers will undercut wages of all
American truckers, just like Mexicans destabilize wages from
construction workers, roofers, landscapers and other trades.

Sorry, but I think the facts will show that it has more to do with the new “Hours of Operations” adding in the latest Haz Mat regulations and restrictions. I left when I found out that I alone was heading for a 20-25% loss of income with NO additional income hauling Haz Mat loads.

Making things worse was the D.O.T. telling us that the new hours of operation was to reduce the POV/truck accident rate. Funny how their own studies showed that 98% of the accidents were a direct result of the Private Own Vehicle.

As far as the Mexican Drivers, bring them on. Within the first 90 days you will see most of their shipping fleet broke down, involved in major accidents with civilians fatalities and lost loads to the likes of never before seen records. It won’t be long before the shippers will be crying for the return of their old drivers.

If you want to see the end of the truckers getting screwed, CHANGE THE DOT LAWS AND REGULATIONS THAT FAVOR THE TRUCKING COMPANIES AND SCREW THE DRIVERS & OO’s!

Far from the Truth about President Bush. The American Trucking Industry or rather the American Transportation Industry has been in trouble since 1980 when Congress deregulated the Industry with no protection for bottom end freight rates.

Since this time, many long standing names in the trucking industry have been forced into Mergers, Acquisitions or Bankruptcy because the little man can not compete with the outright power of the corporate giants that control simply by overpowering the little guy with cheap rates and promotion of unfair rules that allow corporate greed, along with government graft and corruption.

The American truck drivers have no vision, and no willpower to overcome. Their minds are closed to new ideas as they have one thing on their minds, and that is getting the next load and making delivery.

The Owner Operators are what is termed "Asset Providers!" They provide their assets so others can become richer while they are on a down hill slide into poverty.

No! We can't blame what started long ago on this President, but we always blame the President for the lack of moral fiber in the backbones of our Representatives in Congress and the Senate.

Until the American Truckers open their minds to new ideas, they will never be able to overcome their plight and will further sink into the history of business failures and failed lives.

This does not only apply to the trucking industry, as it applies to the general population around the globe who look to Government for support or look to get rich quick schemes rather than look toward real business and understand that everyone has the same chance to be relieved of poverty providing they educate themselves as to the fact we are all consumers and start spending accordingly.

We in the MLM circles all too often think Ground Floor opportunities are the best and only way to profit and that is just not true. Any company that provides to consumers, needed products and services is an open market for those willing to work.

Ignorance is cured by education:

We don't want to!
We can't!
We don't have time!
That is one of those pyramid things!
Do I have to spend my money?

are All Excuses for continued Ignorance.

When we finally overcome the negative thoughts about the business world we will realize there are many opportunities to help each other. Until that time, we can continue to complain about how bad things are and they will never change.

This simple statement, "When the People lead, the Leaders will Follow," is a statement of fact, as when the people decide that the leaders are taking us down the wrong path, then we will see changes needed in our would. Will it happen? Probably not because most people still love to play golf in lighting storms!

No, I don't blame Bush for all the ill's befalling the trucking industry in the United States as these problems started long ago and are perpetuated by those who will not change direction with the wind.

How do I know about the Trucking Industry? I was an Owner Operator for some time as well as spent many years driving as a company slave. Yes, I am well aware of the plight of the trucking industry and the facts remain they are part of a failed society of people who do not open their minds any further than they arena where their life is encircled.

US Department of Labor Statistics:
The Majority who start work at age 25 and work for 40 years; at age 65:
1% are rich
4% are wealthy enough to enjoy retirement
66% are totally dependent upon Government Welfare, family, friends, Church, and local social welfare programs to survive.
29% are dead.

Life has not changed in 5,000 years since the ancient parables of Babylon were written that cover the rules of money and laws of gold. Only the faces have changed along with technology. People remain in debt and dependent.

This does not say much for living in a Capitalist world, does it!

The designers this package to bring together North America as partners across the boarders should have started in 1935, as far a Mexico is concerned. There would not be the problems of today.

Congress has failed the American People.
The American people have failed themselves because of Complacency, Apathy and Dependence upon others for their future rather than look within themselves and understand the world around them (outside) their little realms of reality.

Thanks for posting this as people need to know what is going on within this world of ours. Knowledge is the only thing that can spark the potential of a turn around that can change this world for the better.

I don't care if the US trucking industry has been mismanaged. I still don't want uninspected Mexican trucks on our highways an even more porous border.

This is not the problem or the answer to the trucking industries headaches and especially the small companies and owner operators.

I don't like the way this package was put together either, but tell me any time in the past 26 years when there has been one thing put into place to protect our trucking industry?

Sorry, you cant. So, tell me how the Mexicans are going to change things that really make any difference what so ever.

Truckers won't organize and Congress won't act, so you have no chance other than look elsewhere for answers.

Just ask any truck driver in any truck stop if they would ever be involved in any type of MLM and they will walk away like they have been snake bit. It does not matter how simple the program is or even if people are willing to work the program for them until there are enough people working together to keep the training going.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I loved driving truck, but I was smart enough to know it was a dead end.

The Mexican situation will cause some problems, but it does not matter because drivers and small companies will do nothing to protect themselves, so it really does not matter if you like it or not.

I must say, I have tried to organize drivers myself, and they don't have any interest in anything but complaining about how bad things are and now how bad things are going to get. Bankrupt is still Bankrupt.

By the way, I still say the fault of most of our problems are on the shoulders of Congress and not Bush. Everyone blames the president every time we have a new president, but Congress continues to play the game of politics rather than solve the nations problems. It is called political expediency!

Organizing the Trucking Industry could be a lot of fun if people would open their minds. I don't have a lot of hope from what I have seen though. My experiences with trying to confront drivers with issues have brought about as much interest as talking with our young high school graduates. No respect, little knowledge and no desire to learn; yet I am still out here working on people because someone has to make a difference - some how.

I refused to run Haz Mat my last years. Primarily because of all the Government control and no protection, but then I was never happy with the rates paid for so much more responsibility.

DOT has a job because the trucking industry can not afford the safety regulations. Does not make sense, especially when adding more DOT to the pay rolls does not increase safety; it only shuts down more trucks and bankrupts more drivers.

1980 freight rates in 2007 make as much sense as Voting for Hillary Clinton and expecting FREEDOM in a Capitalist world.

The Trucking industry is in sad shape, but it is the drivers who will have to fix it. How do you get people to organize; even for a two or three day shut down?

The only way to get things happening is to find a way to put money in people pockets and to do that, they have to be willing to learn something new.

A great MLM that has something for everyone who lives on the road, would be a great way to have contacts listed. In such a way people can be organized.

Again, how do we get people to do what has to be done to get organized.

The lobbiests in DC are very strong and OOIDA can't seem to get passed them. Perhaps they don't have the right people pushing. I don't know.

As far as Mexican trucks causing problems, we will just have to wait and see. I doubt they will travel in this country without being inspected and shut down if they don't meet safety, but there will be problems.

I love Celilo. I have a faint memory of when I was a small child on the Columbia-before the falls disappeared. Of course I remember the way it is today because I grew up in Eastern Oregon and traveled to the coast many times down the gorge during my younger years. I missed it during my military years but caught up on its beauty while driving truck so many years.

Here is what will happen DOT will look the other way. They are do this now with the big shipping companies at thr ports. Everyday day loads come in at these ports which are over 95,000 lbs, "there is no overweight permit for this weight", HAZ Mat loads coming in with no plackards on the containers or trailers. Driver wait until they pull up to the interchange lane before they put them on. yes nothing is going to change when the mexican's arrive. It will be just business as usual. The only difference will be more of it. Mean while the rates will take a nose dive so far that American owner operator truck driver will never be able to afford to pull another load.

There is justice every now and then...

The greed, truck payment, and the fact that you can’t get two truckers to agree on anything will keep them at the bottom of the food chain. The truckers do have the ability to pull this all around, they just think it’s the others truckers job to make his life better.

Swift was in the news a few years ago as they started buying up Mexican trucking companies. At that time the Mexican loved the .10-.12 cents paid per mile while the U.S. drivers for Swift was hoping that the company was not going to drop their .25/mile rate lower.

Until the U.S. Congress changes the current pay scale from mileage to driving time, loading/unloading time, and drop & hook you will NEVER see a living wage again in the Trucking Industry. The power of the companies needs to be removed and swing back to the drivers. The old, “I can always get another driver” statement MUST be removed from the equation. Case in point:

A few years back my brother was out of time, pass his sleep period and had a load that required a 9:00AM delivery. The office gave him a delayed shipment without giving him the required delivery time required. Picking up his gray keyboard he informed dispatch that he was out of time, very tired, and needed sleep with the question as to how they wanted him to proceed.

The Station Manager informed him that he didn’t give a damn about his logbooks or his fatigue, but he wanted that load delivered by 9:00AM the next morning! As my brother and the Chicken Coop Inspector read the incoming message together, he asked my brother if he had enough energy left to move his rig over and park it between them two white lines to the right, cause he was out of service.

My brother only got the needed 8 hours sleep with no fines or tickets. However, within just a few short hours the State Troopers in the State where his home office was located walked in and cited the Station Manager to the tune of $26,000 with the threat of jail time if he gave my brother ANY problems over it. :toofunny: :woohoo: :ro_emote: Funny thing was, whenever he asked the company again about a decision NO ONE would answer his questions…

I windsurf at Celilo most weekends. It's always sunny. I never had the opportunity to see it before the dams flooding the valley, but it must have been even more beautiful

With regard to trucking. I'm not suggesting that not allowing Mexican trucks will resolve the industries problems. I simply object to the policy for other reasons. I'll have to take your word for the state of the industry and laborers in the US because I'm not very knowledgeable in that area.

With regard to Bush... I voted for him twice, but only because he was better than the alternatives. There are some things that I like about GW, I'm not a Bush hater, but his policies as well as those in Congress have little resemblance to republican or conservative principals. Had the Republicans held to the Gingrich philosophy of the early to mid 90's, they'd have a larger majority than ever. It's my belief that the war would not have even impacted the most recent congressional election much if domestic issues were handled conservatively as promised.

Truckers go on strike to improve issues???... Will NOT happen and SHOULD NOT be allowed either...next, we will have the city drivers, the Cabbys.. the nurses and the cabbage councillors and a whole lot of Jim bang out there that took a job for what it iis...and when the going is good, they forget the rest that helped them where they now stood and when its a downhill ride...they suddenly remembered, HELP is needed from all quarters of society to get them back where they once stood...SAME ole SCENARIO...one need not have to look to American truckers on this... its EVERYWHERE if your eyes are open wide enough....

The problem is is NOT with GW Bush... the core culprit usually lies within the Organization...there's always a team or a bunch of crooked leaders (Stewards) thats "wheelin & dealin" and somewhere down the line, the word gets all messed or screwed up and the blame is deflected towards the wrong direction... I'll save the infinite details here... been there and the truth always points towards the center, seated within! :biggrin::noserious

As for Congress...well, The Constitution is behind it... that also protects YOU ALL...its like back to square ONE, isn't it??? :party::biggrin:

I agree that the Republican's strayed of course and they have admitted that. It is one reason I have stated the only difference between a Republican and a Democrat today is the spelling. Of course that is not entirely true, but when we have an economy that is bankrupt with 40% drawing some kind of government check and services, something is wrong with the Capitalist mechanism of which is the only means of producing wealth.

Even the Corporate Welfare is alive and well as we have seen recently here in Spokane with a Corporation bargaining away the wealth of property owners for the money required to build a new section of our Downtown area. We can't own property when government can continue to drain the wealth out of it for every little whim. We now pay rent to government to live in the homes we work hard to pay for.

It does nothing for the tax payers and property owners but they evidently can't see the damage they are doing. What we have done is create another Government entity that will build wealth into the cities tax coffers at the expense of present wealth rather than produce new wealth to build and enhance the value of our community.

The trucking industry is in a real sad state of affairs, yet you will find many out there who are company drivers that will say all is just great. Most of them could not find a job that paid anything and now they can afford a new pair of boots. That does not make the problems go away, but they won't realize this for some years down the road as they just have not a clue as the state of affairs this country is in.

The fact the trucking industry does not share the wealth as it should makes it extremely difficult to repair or pay for new equipment. Owner Operators are in debt from the day they purchase until the day they are forced out or leave this world for the hear after. This is why I say, "they are only Asset Providers" who provide assets for others to get rich, and they never have a chance to get ahead in life.

When so many work in one of our most important National Industries, it means the support chain is huge; i.e. factory workers, to sales people, to many other forms of support and that means, when things are bad we see lay offs, factory closures, reposesions, and bankruptcies.

There should never have been a total deregulation. Bottom end freight rates and other protective clauses should have remained to protect the industry from greed, graft and corruption as well as the abuse of drivers and small businesses.

Mexican truckers will cause some problems, but the majority of the problems are already festering in this industry as far too many remain complacent, apathetic and dependent on Government to do the right thing other than to look at alternative to force change.

Owner Operators may shut down during scheduled strikes, but company drivers will not. Many Owner Operators will not shut down for a couple days because they have bills to pay and families to feed. They don't realize that taking a couple days off could potentially get the attention of Government and force them to make some necessary changes.

It is really sad, but our problems are not just the trucking industry as most people in this country remain of the same state of mind when it comes to earning money and paying bills.

Those drawing Government paychecks don't care because they are living. Those who are struggling and doing the complaining won't do their due diligence in learning about the opportunities they have to produce the wealth they need to survive.

Until people realize we are going down the wrong path, there will be no change. A Great indicator of what people want is the high rating Hillary Clinton carries at present in the running for the Next Presidential election.

People want big government, they will get bigger and more powerful government and that is when they lose their freedom and independence. They give up what this country has stood for just to have promises of security. Those who willingly give up freedom for security, deserve neither.

The simple fact is, "we can not tax ourselves into prosperity" as there just is not enough money. You must first increase national and personal wealth before you can afford the social needs of life within a country or community.

As far as Mexico and Canada, in this trade union, it is the consensus of Government, that by placing our three countries under one umbrella, we will enhance the power of a United North America, just as the Union of the European countries and give North America a stronger position in the world economy. I personally can not see Mexico adding to the wealth when all they have promoted south of our border is poverty and that is the reason so many Mexicans are now in the United States Illegally.

This was started (designed) before President Bush, and we should all be standing up and shouting about the Legal and Illegal Immigrants in this country as it is bring this country to its knees. Educated *****s have been running our country; not people with vision and understanding.

America's last farewell? It took Rome 400 years to dissipate while wallowing in its own misery. America will remain as long as there are people who believe in Liberty, Freedom and Independence, but it won't be the dream place for people in the coming decades.

At present so many want in because they have no hope in their own countries. This is the last Bastian of hope and most Americans have not a clue, but some are waking up because of people spreading the word. It is not enough and time is not on our side.

What does that say for the rest of the world?

Capitalism is the only course, but it must be free of its three cancers: Greed, Graft and Corruption. Then we have the human race.

Smile! Enjoy life as it is a one way ride.

It is sad they way the trucking industry is mishandled and allowed to wallow in its own problems as no one wants to fix any of the problems, like this short list of problems:
1. Forcing drivers to work on a dock and not get paid.
2. Forcing drivers to accept House Hold Mileage guide rules that make a driver work approximately 30 days out of each year for free.
3. Forcing drivers to work for less than a living income.
4. Forcing drivers to handle HAZ MAT and not paying for the additional responsibility.
5. Forcing drivers to accept doubles and triples and not paying a reasonable income for the added responsibilities.

But who's forcing who? They can all quit and take a $9 per hour job in a world that dictates $35 per hour if you want a future for yourself and/or family, or go to work for the government, but when everyone is working for government who will pay the taxes. (there will be no taxes because Government earns the money to support the children who could not take care of themselves)

Likewise, when everyone is working for the Government they will have no opportunities for real advancement or wealth building in life. In other words you become a slave of the system and get what they pay and nothing else.

I personally prefer Freedom to working for Government. The only millionaires I see created today are those engaged in free enterprise, free market. In other words MLM. I do see Millionaires using Corporate Welfare (Taxation) to support their goals. Should this not be illegal? You can only bleed the bank so much until the coffers are dry. Have we learned nothing from history and the fall of Nations? No! Evidently not.

I know where you are coming from pal, but here is the way I see it.
1. Mexicans will have to eat from the menu prices in the US and that will require much more than ten cents per mile. We can't survive on 25 cents per mile.

2. Any trucks coming into California, Arizona, New Mexico will be weighed as they will have to cross a scale.

3. Any truck carrying HAZ MAT that is not placarded and ends up in an accident, no matter how minor will cause that company to go out of business.

4. Swift, with all their power of being one of the largest carriers in the world, will have to maintain their fleet here in the US, so their drivers won't be affected and Mexican Drivers will probably be on par with US Drivers after a short while.

If you look to the Trucking in Europe, you find drivers from many countries crossing borders every day and it does not have a negative affect on the different countries.

We will be doing the same as Europe over time with trucks traveling from one end of Mexico to Alaska and all points in Canada. Much of the freight will not stop in the US, although the market will be open for freight to be delivered within all points in the US.

This is coming and it is only a matter of time. However, like I said, the planning should have started many decades ago and not when we are having major problems, economically and with illegal immigrants.

Mexico did not have to remain a poor country. They could have done many things to enhance their position in the global market, but the corrupt leadership and they type of government has keep Mexico from expanding and growing.

The United States, being their only neighbor to the north, should have done something a long time ago to help bring Mexico up to a decent standard of living.

Why did we not do this? Many reasons and none of them worth the time of day.

Times chance and people must change with times. The problem is people do not like change as change is not considered NORMAL!

Those who do not change with times, get changed by times and that also makes people angry.

This is the reason people don't want to talk when approached about something not considered normal. So what is normal?

While it is true that NO President has ever had total approval, comparing Al Gore to George Bush is not consistent with reality. They are two very different individuals and the difference is like night and day.

Compare the two:

Al Gore is for Conservation and yet his home is one of the most non-conservative and wasteful as far as energy as anyone in the world.

George Bush, on the other hand is not a so called Conservationist, yet he has the most earth friendly home in the United States; with geo thermal, solar, etc.

Al Gore puts on the big talk and the big front.

George Bush talks from under the Cowboy hat and says what he really feels is true.

Now lets take a look at the upcoming hopefuls:

I don't see the Democrats with any strong standing other that Hillary Clinton as defender of big Government and Social Welfare. I see her as someone who changes face to meet the circumstances of the day.

Many people like Fred Thompson. Many like Mitt Romney. Guiliani is well liked and the leading contender, but many do not believe he will stay in the lead.

Who will win?

It depends on how serious the American Voters are next time and if they want more government or if they want a country that wants to get back to the basics of building wealth in a Nation.

Building Social welfare is the direction of Hillary Clinton. That means more and bigger government.

Will the dollar fall on the world market?
What is really backing the Euro?
What is really backing the British Pound?

Which country has done more for the world than any other?
What happens if that country should slide out of the ability to help all others?

Our world is in a quagmire of Social Services that can not cope with the masses of needy people. The US Immigration has allowed such a high number of Legals into this country it threatens our very security and freedoms and that is not even taking into consideration the Illegal aliens.

Yet, there are many under the US Flag who will never give up Freedoms cause until it is taken away from everyone.

I thank you for the question, but it should be obvious from my rantings, but let me try to explain it a little different:

I am on the side of ethics, morality, liberty, freedom, independence. Within this realm is our Capitalist world of business which includes Free Market, Free Enterprise and the right to seek out dreams.

You see I have been preaching for years about Capitalisms three cancers and three dangers, and not all within the dangers is critical if they are controlled and kept within reason:
Cancers: Greed, Graft Corruption
Dangers: C o m m u n i s m, S o c i a l i s m and Dependency to include being totally dependent upon the employer or Job for personal and family financial security.

In other words, we must all seek other avenues to provide for ourselves as most employers will not and can not provide. Social services are needed within all societies, but when the economy is so bad the cost of these services are overbearing and basically worthless, then there are no benefits.

I am for a world without petty dictators that control their people, their lives, to the point they have no freedom. I am for freedom of religion of those who believe and the freedom for those who don't believe to believe as they do.

I believe there are good people in all political parties and yet, I know there are people in all parties that are not worthy of the trust of the people.

As someone once said (something that went sort of like this), "politics and government are necessary but to place all your trust in them is foolish."

So, as for the side of the fence I sit on, call it what is most uncommon today: Common Sense!'

Sorry about so much, but when I get started I don't know when to stop sometimes. (Most of the time!)

I have to wonder what GB's political years would have looked like had it not been for 911. I also wonder if 911 would have happened if our leaders had been on their toes? I wonder what kind of President GB would have been, had he the complete backing of a Nation without a war.

A great book to read which sheds a lot of light on what the US has been up against; to include our own Representatives that should have gone to prison for divulging secrets, is "Casey," the CIA Chief under Ronald Reagan.

As far as US Companies heading south of the boarder, Freightliner will be build in Mexico in the near future. The Portland, Oregon plant is closing. Other companies have moved south, but the quality of manufacturing was found to be very poor. If Mexico wants to keep these jobs, then their quality of manufacturing will have to be improved. In the mean time, what about the American workers who no longer have a good paying job.

I offered to go to Portland to speak with employees there, but never got any response. Why? Because I wanted to talk about the MLM world. Why are so many so blind?

Now, as far as Trucks moving north, across the board, they will be inspected and they will be shut down in record numbers if they are not up to standard. You can bet the US DOT will be very busy when the borders open.

I imagine the only break they will get is the cheap fuel they will put in their trucks on the Mexican side.

You are absolutely right about Europe not bringing in Third World Countries and I have so stated this as the problem with Mexico joining the US and Canada.

I look at Spain and I look at Mexico and I wonder why the drastic difference in the poverty level, but then we know why. The Mexican Government and the power of the wealthy over the impoverished. They had the time and the chances to build a beautiful and upbeat country that could cater to all of the world much better in tourism and world trade. They chose to be closed minded. Likewise, the US Oil Companies, (in the 1930') trashed the east coast of Mexico and that did not make the Mexican's very happy with doing business with us Gringo's north of their border.

The Policies of trying to bring the world up to standards ran out of steam after putting Germany and Japan as well as other parts of Europe back on their feet after WWII. We flat ran out of money to help the whole world and American's have given up so much in the way of tax dollars to help the world and now that we can't help them so much, we are not looked upon kindly by many.

A comment from a US Representative 200 years ago,"and after providing bread, on the very first scarcity, they will turn and bit the hand that fed them!" Of course this is talking about welfare of which is a gift and not a right, but when people discover they can legally rob the coffers of government, then everyone wants their share and they demand it as a right.

Be Careful what you give away and who you give it to.

Sure, politics plays a huge roll in world affairs and politics should be a four letter word, but it is a game people play that does effect every citizen world wide; good, bad, or indifferent.

I too, look for the Soviet world to grow and be productive. They are in their infancy as far as Capitalism and you see a lot of crime as well as greed, but they will overcome this; at least for a while.

We are stuck with the Mexican problem, but I am afraid this will not be the major problem we are going to face as the legal immigration numbers are way out of hand and need to be dropped back to 1965 levels.

After returning from Europe the last time, I walked into a bar where I use to frequent occasionally because a friend of mine managed the place. I sat down at the bar and I said, "Hey Mike, give me glass of water!"

Of course it was yellow in color, and it did not have the taste of good European beer, but it started the conversation of returning after being gone so long.

I miss the Festivals. We have nothing like it here. Too many laws and no common sense. There I go again, talking about something "not so common!":beer:
