Default Will this affect the new lotto ?

    http://www.abilene.bbb.org/release.html?value=47

Just thought I would ask. I am sure that many have wondered about it.

I reallize that the new lotto program is NOT a scheme. But, it also says that US citizens shouldn't participate in any foreign lotteries.

    Hey treed

Read this again and tell me what you think....

"What the company fails to tell you is that, even if you win, it is generally illegal for US citizens to participate in a foreign lottery. As a general proposition, sending lottery material through the mail is prohibited by federal law. This material includes letters or circulars concerning a lottery, tickets in a lottery, and payments to purchase such tickets"

Whats missing out of this statement????

Yeah but what is included in it? The fact that it is illegal PERIOD in the USA pretty much says it all. I have found that particular statment all over the internet.
To each his own Pippyman..........if you arent concerned...........have at it.
I totally intend to participate in this 100% myself...as long as it is legal "for me" to do so. Dont get me wrong...............I want in on this as bad as the next person.............I WANT MY PIECE OF THIS PIE too you know.
But only if it is legal "for me" to do so.
From what I am seeing is that we have a lot of contradictions in the different articles we have found...........I take that as a good sign. I havent really found anything definitive confirming it is illegal............so thats a plus to me!

Hey Style I agree. I intend to participate. But if you read again when it says it is "generally illegal" it is referring to this....

I intend to participate as well unless I can get a 100% confirmation (from someone who honestly knows) that it is illegal.........which doesnt look to me like anything is definitive. You would think when it comes to the law that we could get a straight answer in "one" areticle somewhere......LOL.............but thats our wonderful government here......but anyway what I am seeing in the articles so far seems to be a lot of opinions and no facts and to me thats a good sign.
I mean if you look up "robbery" or "burglary" or "DUI" they are all definitve about being illegal...........this one just gives a lot of conjecture.
I was up until 4:30 this morning searching and couldnt come up with a definite answer............................................
so......................I take that as a very big + sign!

Aren't laws by bureaucratic commissions great! Make it so gray the no one knows for sure. If you think that is confusing, you should look at the EPA rules for pollution control/abatement; it'll make your head spin! The last thing you should ever do, however, is ask the ruling body for a clarification. Nine times out of ten, they expand their domain of control and cloud the situation further. Either way, the little guy or private company loses.

If it were illegal, the online gambling sites wouldn't be able to exist. That whole "if decided by lot or chance" statement in the statute that Pippyman had posted pretty much says it all. It clearly states the use of "mail or telephone" is illegal but the internet, so far at least, isn't regulated.

I'll tell you a story about THIS:
In Sweden recently, you could start your own LOTTERY type of program...
BEFORE this...ONLY the State could do this....and by the STATE, I mean the GOVERNMENT of SWEDEN, Not just a Region as in the US...

Anyhow...The lottery I'm talking about here is a lottery in wich you as a participant can WIN a certain amount of money EVERY MONTH for a certain amount of years...So let's say that you win about $3000.00 per month for 25 years...you have to pay tax on this....

ONE person contacted the Tax authorities about this...because he WON in this lottery...THE ANSWER...he had to pay the FULL taxes on this (25 years of $3000.00 a month) to the amount of 30% of the WHOLE...AND...pay it NOW!!!....go figure...BUT, the INTERESTING part of this is...There have been THOUSANDS of winners in this lottery since then...AND NO-ONE have been URGED to pay ANYTHING....

    SO...the WISDOM o f this is...
    Pipsology Lesson # 23

DON'T give MORE INFORMATION to the authorities as needed, until ASKED FOR...
    Just a Thought...

But I also posted articles where it did say it was also illegal via the internet.
But like I said.............there is just too much contradiction for me. If they want laws to be followed then by damn they need to make them clear.
    SO..............I am IN!

I have to admit that I didn't look at all of the articles you referenced but the one from USA Today is from the "mainstream" US media. There's been enough scandals centering around the various media outlets in the past couple of years that the last place I would get my legal advice/information would be there.

Although very few of us know exactly what Congress has been proposing/passing into law the last few years, I do remember that every single measure proposing limiting, taxing, or regulating the internet has been voted down. You can thank the Republican majority for that. As far as curtailing internet "content" you can thank the Democrat minority and crossover Republicans for for opposing that as well. So far, the internet has been left alone which is exactly why internet business is booming. It's when government attempts to control business that things go awry...
