Default *Stickies* Take Up Too Much Bandwidth

    Hey Guys,

A friend of mine runs a forum and he says *Sticky Topics* take up a whole bunch of bandwidth.

I noticed you have several (in multiple places) that are old and outdated, and we could easily do without them.

Just a thought...you don't have to delete the thread, just 'unstick it'.

Thanks for being here. It's much appreciated.

Thanks for the tip, love. :D

When we move to the new server we will have five times the bandwidth, but we still like to be able to economise..., don't we?

Pictures that have been uploaded to the server take up bandwidth - Pictures that are referenced by a url that have not been uploaded to the server take up as much bandwidth as the the text length referencing them on the server takes, but the actual bandwidth used is on the host of the server.

Some sites do not like you to "steal" their bandwidth like referencing to their pictures or material. On my site I have many reciprocal links, and one of the T&C for a reciprocal link on my site is, that if graphics are required, then I link directly to the source and not upload them to my server. The return is that I allow them to link to the source of my graphics. The reason I do this, is that 1. it is difficult to catalogue and control all the varying graphics, and 2. I can monitor if the graphics are available. If the graphics becomes "unavailable" I can investigate the dead link to determine if the site no longer exists and remove the link, or if the url has changed. Because I have stated the T&C of a reciprocal link it is up to the requester to determine if it is worth asking. However I doubt if most refer to the T&C.

I can understand that. But what about the people that might have only dial up(ug) there is still some. The pictures take a long time to download.

    Hi Almye

Anyone can limit what they download, for example in Internet Explorer you can stop pictures and multimedia from loading by default.

Click Tools > Internet Tools > Advanced Tab > Multimedia

Then untick everything you don't want to download.

    Hope that helps.

    Best wishes
