Lutterloh's system is German, started in the mid 1930's. That means that the earlier books are in German. However, this doesn't matter because once you know how the system works, you just use the patterns.

This system uses what is called "radial grading". The patterns are small, 1/4 scale, and you use the special ruler and two measurements, your bust and hips (please be sure to carefully read the instructions) you need no other measurements. And yes, it really produces a good, usable pattern and piece of clothing.

The 1954 book has a pattern for a bullet bra. So very Mad Men!

The books represent the fashions for any need, casual, dressy, and wedding dresses are included in all the books. Women's, men's and children's clothing. Lutterloh used high end fashions from the Paris runways, so these aren't just run of the mill fashions, there's some great stuff in them.

Be aware also, that if you are used to sewing using "American" methods, you'll have some adjusting to do. These patterns are European, more like Burda. The pants crotch seams are not the same and there are far more couture methods that you'll need. Invest in a good sewing method book from the era and you'll be fine.
