    Default First time to Peloponnese

Over the las 7 years we've been to over a dozen Greek Islands, but never to the Peloponnese.

We like good beaches, long lunches in good tavernas, quiet resorts with a variety of nationalities - no package holiday!

What's the best way to get there (assume via Athens and hire a car)?

    Thanks for your help guys

You'll love the south of Greece! Fly into Athens, rent a car, drive to Nauplion for a couple, driving around the small beach towns in the area, great lunches await, and scenary...Run down to Monemvasia fo a couple days, and explore and hang out in this beautiful spot with lots of available non "mass tourism" options, then you could drive through Laconia to Gythion and spend a day or two in the Mani..great roads, beautiful vistas, traditional towns, with rural Greek farming communities that add to the slower pace of life Easy drive over to Areopolis, before headin home...just a suggested plan..its all good roads, gives you a few great towns to hang around on the sea, all with great beaches within 5 to 10 minutes with the car...Stunning landscapes..Have fun! You could also fly to Kalamata and either drive or take a taxi south.

Many thanks for your help. Sounds great. I'll start researching properly now.

Flying to Kalamata seems very expensive against Athens - so I guess it will have to be be Athens. Is it possible to travel there on Public Transport? If driving how long does it take (say we were go go all the way over to the West Coast?)

One last question - what's the best 'travel guide' for the area please.

Travelling by bus can be a nightmare, it is wise to plan ahead or at least accept a lot of waiting if you are unlucky.
