Iraqi Council of Representatives voted unanimously to approve the election law, which has sparked widespread controversy and long.

Welcomes the U.S. embassy and the multinational forces by the House of Representatives passed amendments to election law today. This decision allows for parliamentary elections in January as stipulated in the Constitution of Iraq.

We congratulate the members of the House of Representatives reached an agreement on many issues are difficult and are of great importance for the Iraqis.

By passing this law, the Iraqi people have demonstrated through their representatives wished to adhere to democratic government and consultative process. We encourage all Iraqis to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming elections.

It is my opinion- and I am sure that many would agree with me, this is a critical advancement to any hopes of the RV. I said for a while that no Election Law- no RV.
When you add to this the fact that the dinar supply has dried up substantially, plus the 4 huge Oil Contracts and even several other pluses over in Iraq...not to mention the rumors from other forums (not all rumors are total fabrications as we know- there is at least some truth- sometimes!), and it could appear to the untrained eye that maybe we are going to see the RV the first half of this century after all!
I'm sure it will happen very very soon however, because I placed an order several days ago with Safe D. It was supposed to be delivered Thursday...then I was told it would be shipped Friday for Monday delivery...then Saturday we were told they don't know when it will be shipped as they are out of everything!.:mad:
Therefore, I'm sure I screwed myself somehow and we will see the RV before my order is shipped, so...you guys might as well:party: and I'll try and catch up later!

UN hails approval of election law in Iraq

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the approval of a law in Iraq's parliament that would pave the way for the country's general elections.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ban said "this decision now paves the way for preparations for national elections to be held in January," AFP reported on Sunday.

"These elections will be a crucial opportunity to advance national reconciliation and contribute to Iraq's political progress," Ban added.

He urged all political blocs and their leaders to exercise "true statesmanship during the election campaign and participate in a spirit of national unity."

The vote on the bill governing the country's second national election since the 2003 US-led invasion was delayed for several weeks over a number of disagreements among Iraqi lawmakers, including the format of the ballot papers and how the polls should be run in the oil-rich city of Kirkuk.

The election, due to be held in early 2010, is considered crucial to consolidation of the war-torn country ahead of the withdrawal of the US combat troops by August and a complete pullout by the end of 2011.
